Bradford City v Chesterfield Betting Preview – 7/1/17

In our Bradford City v Chesterfield betting preview we look at the best possible betting tips between the two sides.

On Saturday afternoon this weekend in League One we see Danny Wilson take his Chesterfield side on the trip to Valley Parade to face Stuart McCall’s Bradford City. You would expect that this one should be a fairly comfortable home victory. When these two teams met in the reverse fixture at the Proact Stadium, Bradford came away with a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Billy Clarke.

The home side Bradford City head into the visit of Chesterfield knowing that they can’t afford any more slip ups or face the prospect of falling too far behind the runaway few teams and saying goodbye to their hopes for automatic promotion. The Bantams have spent pretty much the whole of the season in and around the top four of the table, but a big gap is starting to emerge between the top three and the teams below. After going through the heartbreak of losing in the play offs last season, so they are desperate to be promoted to the Championship for the first time. They’ve made a solid start as they currently find themselves sat in fifth place in the table, three points behind Rochdale in fourth and two ahead of Fleetwood in sixth. There is a hefty gap of eight points between them and the automatic places, so it looks like they may have to settle for the play offs again. They are actually unbeaten at home in the league so far this season, and haven’t lost in their last six, but four of them have finished as draws. Stuart McCall has clearly made his side difficult to beat, but they are drawing far too many matches for a team that has aspirations of being promoted. Their current top scorers are Billy Clarke and Jordy Hiwula, they both have six goals to their name and will be looking at adding to that tally here. They have this week been bolstered with the signing of Alex Jones from Birmingham City.

Their most recent match was on Monday afternoon when they travelled to Sixfields Stadium to face Rob Page’s Northampton Town. The hosts took the lead not long before the break after some good work from Paul Anderson saw his cross met by the head of Alex Revell. The Bantams turned the tie on its head scoring two in the final 17 minutes of the match, with the winner coming in the 86th. Mark Marshall got the equaliser and then Jordy Hiwula snatched all three points.

The away side Chesterfield go into the trip to Bradford City knowing that they seriously need to begin picking up points or else they face the danger of falling deep into the relegation zone. After finishing in a very underwhelming 18th place last season, this time round they look like they are in for a fight for survival yet again. They currently find themselves sat in the top spot of the drop zone in 21st place, level on points with Bury who are in the place above them but only a win off bottom place. They’ve won one of their last five, but the frustrating thing for them is that it came to title contenders Bolton. So it proves that on their day they can beat anyone, but they are just not performing consistently. They’ve got the worst away record in the division, managing just one win from thirteen on the road, collecting just five points. Their top scorer is Jay O’Shea, the Irish midfielder has six goals to his name and will be key for their bid for survival.

Their most recent game was on Monday afternoon when they welcomed Robbie Neilson’s MK Dons to the Proact Stadium. Both sides lacked quality and invention although the visitors came close to winning it in the final minutes with substitute Daniel Powell forcing Ryan Fulton into an outstanding save. Ian Evatt went closest for Chesterfield with a header from a corner but neither side could break the deadlock and had to settle for a goalless draw.
