France v Ivory Coast Betting Preview – 15/11/16

In our France v Ivory Coast betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

France and Ivory Coast take a break from their busy World Cup qualification campaigns as they meet at the Stade de France for a friendly. The hosts come into the clash fresh from picking up a 2-1 victory over Sweden on Friday evening. After falling behind just after the interval, goals from Paul Pogba and Dimitri Payet saved them to seal an important victory. Ivory Coast’s preparation for this clash was slightly different, they travelled to Morocco on Saturday and held them to a draw. It was a decent result for Michel Dussuyer’s men and that point has propelled them to top spot in Group C.

France come into this clash in good form and they’re showing no signs of a hangover from their disappointing defeat in the Euro 2016 final to Portugal. Didier Deschamps’ men are unbeaten since that clash in July, winning four of their last five outings and they’re high on confidence. Friday’s victory over Sweden was their third in as many games but it wasn’t easy for them. They fell behind just after the interval through a superb Emile Forsberg free-kick. But two goals in twelve minutes from Paul Pogba and Dimitri Payet turned the game on it’s head and sent them top of their qualifying group.

However the win did come at a price, Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann was withdrawn late on with an injury and he’ll be unavailable for this clash. Club colleague Kevin Gameiro is the man who’s expected to come in for him and he will be looking to make an impact in the absence of the former Real Sociedad man. He’ll be supported in attack by the likes of Payet, Pogba and Ousmane Dembele and we can see him causing plenty of problems here. He’s priced at 7/4 to hit the back of the net which looks like good value. France have scored in twelve of their last thirteen games and we’re expecting them to enjoy themselves here.

Ivory Coast come into this clash as major underdogs and despite some of their star players retiring over the last few seasons, they’re still more than capable of upsetting this talented France side. The likes of Wilfried Bony, Salomon Kalou, Serey Die and Serge Aurier all play prominent roles in this side and they’re vastly experienced – so they shouldn’t have any problems adjusting to the cauldron that is the Stade de France. They’re a side that’s packed full of pace and power and they’ll be a big threat on the counter attack. They too are defending a strong unbeaten run – Friday’s draw with Morocco saw them extend that streak to eight games and they’ll be eager to keep it going.

Much like France, they’re also missing some key players through injury. The likes of Gervinho, Romaric and Eric Bailly are all unavailable and they will be big misses. Bailly’s absence in particular will hit them hard, the Manchester United has had an impressive start to the season with his club side and he’d relish the clash against Gameiro, Giroud & co. Since Michel Dussuyer came in and took charge of the national team he’s turned around their fortunes significantly. He’s made them a hard side to beat and they have a great chances of qualifying for the World Cup. But this clash will be his biggest test yet and it’s going to be interesting to see how his side perform.

Despite this being a friendly, it pits two different playing styles against each other and it should be an entertaining clash. The hosts come into this one as obvious favourites and with the vast array of talent they have at their disposal we’re expecting them end the ninety minutes with a victory. But the visitors will make it tough for them and they won’t give up without a fight. We’re backing a France win with both sides getting on the scoresheet which is priced at 27/10. Goal in both halves also looks like a safe bet and you can pick that up at 8/11.
