The new League Two campaign gets underway in August with several teams hoping to embark on a season that will see them promoted to League One. For the second season running Paul Cook’s Portsmouth will head into the season as favourites for promotion, they have some big named players at this level with the likes of Gary Roberts and Michael Doyle in their squad and have bolstered their squad in the transfer window with the likes of Milan Lalkovic and Michael Smith joining. Relegated Doncaster Rovers are also fancied this season, Darren Ferguson’s men also have a strong squad at this level and having played in League One or higher for the last 12 years they will be keen to ensure this is just a one year stay. Luton Town, Leyton Orient and last seasons beaten play-off finalists Plymouth Argyle are also amongst those expected to challenge for promotion.
At the bottom end it is Morecambe who are predicted to be relegated this season, with Newport County and Crawley Town also predicted for a season of struggle. All three clubs do not have the same financial muscle as some of the bigger clubs in the division and having all had fairly poor seasons last time out it is easy to see why they are anticipated to struggle. It is a difficult division to predict however – few would have said Accrington and Wimbledon would have made the play-offs last season so the bookmakers odds at this stage can be a little deceiving.
