Morecambe v Notts County Betting Preview – 7/1/17

In our Morecambe v Notts County betting preview we look at the best possible betting tips between the two sides.

On Saturday afternoon this weekend in the League Two we see Alan Smith take his Notts County side on the trip to the Globe Arena to face Jim Bentley’s Morecambe. Both of these two struggling sides will be desperate to come away with what would be a massive three points here on Saturday. These two teams met early on in October when Morecambe made the trip to Meadow Lane to face John Sheridan’s Notts County. The Shrimps managed to come away with a 2-1 win thanks to a brace from Tom Barkuizen, with Vadiane Oliver getting Notts County’s consolation goal in injury time.

The home side Morecambe head into the visit of Notts County hoping that they can continue with their ever so slight improvement in form and come away with a win over another bottom end team. After narrowly avoiding relegation when they finished in 21st place last season, this time round it looks like they may well be in for more of the same. They currently find themselves sat in 19th place, but they do have a healthy gap of six points above the drop zone and are also only a win away from the five teams above them with a game in hand. Therefore if they win this game in hand then they could jump up a few places and to a much stronger position. They will however be without their manager Jim Bentley this weekend who is serving the first of his two match ban after he was sent off in their home defeat to Cheltenham. Morecambe’s only league home win in their last ten matches was actually at home to the table topping Plymouth Argyle, which is frustrating for fans when they have seen how well they can potentially perform.

Their most recent match was on Monday afternoon when they welcomed Steve Davis’ Crewe Alexandra to the Globe Arena. Both teams had to settle for a point each in a goalless draw where each side had their goalkeepers to thank for two stunning performances. The hosts came closest to breaking the deadlock when Lee Molyneux hit the crossbar in the 67th minute after being played-in on goal by Aaron Wildig. The Shrimps were also denied by a superb save from Ben Garratt, who got down smartly to hold a swerving long-range effort by Michael Rose.

The away side Notts County go into the trip to Morecambe hoping that the managerial change is exactly what they need in order to put an end to this horrific run of form in which they are currently going through. The Magpies employed John Sheridan at the start of the year after his survival heroics with Oldham Athletic last season, but after nine successive league defeats he was relieved his duties. Alan Smith who has been a player-coach at the club since 2014, has now taken the caretaker role until a new manager has been appointed. He will be hoping that the change up will spark some new life into the side and they can get what would be a huge win here. They currently find themselves sat just one place and one point above the drop zone in 22nd place, so this would be the perfect time collect three points. Newport County who are bottom have a game in hand on them so could also go one point below them along with Cheltenham Town.

Their most recent game was on Monday afternoon when they travelled to the Abbey Stadium to face Sean Derry’s in-form Cambridge United. The only goal of the first half came after 18 minutes curtesy of Luke Berry which came in bizarre circumstances when he charged down a keepers kick which deflected into goal. In a chaotic 12 minute second half spell, Notts County found themselves 4-0 down with the game done and dusted. Luke Berry got a brace along with goals from Uche Ikpeazu and Piero Mingoia. This was the straw that broke the camels back as Sheridan was sacked following this result.
