Torino v Juventus

The first Turin derby of the season takes place at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino with plenty resting on the line. Sinisa Mihajlovic’s Torino have had a fantastic start to the season and they come into the weekend up in seventh position. Il Toro have picked up twenty five points from their opening fifteen games and should results go for them this weekend them could climb as high as fourth position. They’ve won three of their last four in Serie A and they’re a side high on confidence and not to be underestimated by their illustrious city rivals. But they did go down to a defeat at the hands of Sampdoria in their last outing, so their supporters will be demanding a big response here.

Since arriving at Torino back in May, Sinisa Mihajlovic has done a magnificent job with Torino. He’s transformed them from a bottom half side into genuine top five contenders and European football is now the aim for the club. He strengthened well in the transfer window bringing in the likes of Adem Ljajic, Leandro Castan and Joe Hart to bolster his squad and they’ve all had a huge impact in Turin. They’re all an integral part of a Torino side that’s still unbeaten at home and they’re a team no one enjoys facing. They’ve won their last two in front of their supporters against Cagliari (5-1) and Chievo (2-1) and they’ll fancy their chances of getting one over on their rivals here.

Serie A Champions Juventus are again sitting at the top of the table but things haven’t ran as smoothly as Massimilliano Allegri would like. He’s seen his side lose three times already this season, two less than they did throughout the entirety of 15/16 but they’re still a force to be reckoned with. They’ve won seven of their last nine in all competitions including a 2-0 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in midweek which sealed top spot in their Champions League Group. Goals from Gonzalo Higuain and a first in the CL for Daniele Rugani sealed the three points and they too will be full of confidence coming into the first Turin derby of the season.

Despite the big money departures in the summer of Paul Pogba and Alvaro Morata, the expectation level at Juventus is the highest its been in years and their supporters are expecting them to win every game they go into. The bar has been raised by the arrivals of Miralem Pjanic, Dani Alves and Gonzalo Higuain and the strength in depth that Allegri has at his disposal is quite staggering. They have two quality players in each position but it still hasn’t stopped them succumbing to the odd shock defeat – particularly away from home. All three of their defeats this season have come away from the Juventus Stadium and they can be vulnerable at times on the road. But with the talent they have in their squad, it will take an incredible effort from the hosts to stop the Old Lady grabbing the three points.

Roma v AC Milan – 12/12/16

Monday night sees one of the games of the weekend in Europe at the Stadio Olimpico as Roma take on AC Milan. Luciano Spalletti’s men are up in second place coming into the weekend and they’ve had a fantastic start to the new season. I Lupi have picked up 32 points from their opening fifteen games and they arrive on match day fifteen just four points behind leaders Juventus. But with the champions playing on Sunday, they could be seven behind them before this game kicks-off which will add a little more pressure. But Spalletti’s men have already proven their more than capable of grabbing results in pressure situations and they’ll relish this test.

Roma come into this clash on a high after picking up a morale boosting victory over their fierce city rivals Lazio last Sunday. Goals from Kevin Strootman and Radja Nainggolan saw them come out on top in a bad tempered game at the Stadio Olimpico which saw seven yellow cards and one red. That victory extended their 100% home record in Serie A to seven games and another three points here would send out a big statement. Spalletti will have a near full strength squad at his disposal with the exception of Mohammed Salah who’s out until around February. His absence opens the door Stephan El Shaaaraway and he’ll be itching to make a big impression against his former employers. He’s netted five times in eleven starts this season and we can see him really enjoying himself here, he’s available to net anytime at 8/5 which looks well priced.

It’s safe to say the last few years have been hugely disappointing for AC Milan. No title challenge, no Champions League and no success. But the arrival of Vincenzo Montella as Milan’s new manager in the summer has galvanised the club and they’re looking like genuine title challengers. The Rossoneri are up in third position coming into the weekend and they’ve already picked up big victories over the likes of Lazio (2-0), Sassuolo (4-3) & Juventus (1-0) so they’ll be confident they can pick up a big result here. They were in league action last weekend when they took on Crotone at the San Siro. They fell behind early but showed strong battling qualities to fight back and come out 2-1 winners courtesy of efforts from Mario Pasalic and Gianluca Lapadula.

AC Milan’s recent form is very impressive and only two sides have picked up more points than their thirteen over the last six games. Vincenzo Montella’s men have won four of their last five and they’re a real force away from home. The Rossoneri are the divisions strongest side away from home in Serie A – they’ve picked up thirteen points from their seven games away from the San Siro and they’ve won four of their last six. So we’re expecting them to cause plenty of problems for the hosts and Montella has some of the divisions in-form attackers at his disposal. The likes of Suso, Carlos Bacca and Gianluca Lapadula have all been fantastic in recent weeks and we’re expecting plenty of goalmouth action at the Stadio Olimpico.
