5-a-side dream teams from around Europe

🇪🇸🇮🇹 Europe’s 5-a-side elite 🇩🇪🇬🇧

5-a-side is rapidly growing in popularity these days, with more and more facilities being made available for midweek superstars to showcase their talent all over the country, throughout all kinds of weather conditions, this shorter, quicker alternative to 11 aside is now a huge part of the modern day game. We all know what the best players can do in a full size game, but what we’d really like to see is a FIFA Street Style tournament where the best 5 players from the 4 strongest league’s in the world battle it out with each other for 5-a-side supremacy. We reckon the below teams would raise a few good bets too, if you’d like some tips on upcoming matches, check out our football tips page here.

Below, we’ve compiled a team of superstars from each of the Spanish, Italian, German and English top flights, have a read and see if you agree with our choices and tweet us in your opinions to @footyaccums!

🇪🇸 La Liga – Spain:

Goalkeeper: Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid) –  The 24 year old Slovenian shot stopper is one of the best goalkeepers in world football right now and has been attracting interest from some of Europe’s most elite clubs, with rumours of him moving to the Premier League to sign for Manchester United should David de Gea finally move to Real Madrid next season.

Defender: Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid) – The pacy full back has been influential in Madrid’s success since he re-joined the club from Bayern Leverkusen back in 2013; two Champions League’s, a Copa del Rey and one La Liga title means Carvajal is one of the most decorated defenders in the entire league at just 25 years old. He’s not the biggest, but is agile, quick and has great spacial awareness making him the perfect selection for this 5-a-side team.

Midfield: Lionel Messi (Barcelona) – You can’t have a 5-a-side team without the best player in the world included in it, the Argentinian wizard is unplayable on the football pitch and would be next level in this small sided, quick game. His feet are quicker than anyone else and when he drops the shoulder and dummies to go the other way players can’t get near him. At 5ft 7 he’s got an extremely low centre of gravity that would give him a massive advantage in 5-a-side, he goes into our line up without question.

Midfield: Andres Iniesta (Barcelona) – Potentially the best central midfielder of all time, Iniesta has been a mainstay in the Barcelona side since his debut for the club back in 2002, he can pick a pass from nothing and find space in the tightest of situations. He is technically the best midfielder in world football right now and has been for years, making him an easy selection for this line up.

Striker: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) – The world’s second best footballer has to be included in this line up. He’s got everything – pace, strength, finishing and vision and has won all there is to be won within the game. Ronnie would be unplayable in a game of 5-a-side and goes into our side up top without question. He plays out wide for Madrid but leads the line for Portugal so that’s exactly where he’s going to play for our La Liga dream team.

Subs: Marcelo (Real Madrid), Bale (Real Madrid), Griezmann (Atletico Madrid), Suarez (Barcelona).

🇮🇹 Serie A – Italy:

Goalkeeper: Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus) – The 39 year old has been playing at the top level for Juventus for over 15 years now, making a record breaking 493 appearances for the Italian powerhouses since his debut for the club in 2001. He’s also the highest capped player for the Italian national team, making 171 caps for the Azzurri over the past 20 years, so has an abundance of experience within the game, he is the first name on our team sheet for this Serie A dream team.

Defender: Giorgio Chiellini (Juventus) – Chiellini is the ultimate central defender; a tough tackling, strong, yet technically minded footballer who has made over 300 appearances for the Italian giants, he would be impossible to get past in a game of 5-a-side. The 33 year old has won Serie A 6 times and has also been part of the FIFAPro World XI on more than one occasion, so is an easy pick for our team here.

Midfield: Lorenzo Insigne (Napoli) – The miniature playmaker makes it into our fiercely competitive team on recent form. He’s so good technically and possesses some ridiculous pace making him unplayable in the 5-a-side world. Napoli have a quality team this season, they’ve started the season really well and that’s largely thanks to players like Insigne creating countless opportunities going forward, he goes straight into our side alongside Costa.

Midfield: Douglas Costa (Juventus) – The Brazilian winger is an easy pick for us here, he’s got some frightening ability and is lethal going forward. Currently on loan from Bayern Munich, with a view for a permanent move at the end of the season; Costa is one of, if not the best attacking players in the league and would be outrageous on the 5-a-side court, him and Insigne would be the perfect pair in the middle of the park and easily outplay anyone they went up against.

Striker: Paulo Dybala (Juventus) – Trying to avoid Juventus players for this line up is impossible, they’ve got such a good squad and quite simply have to be included here. Paulo Dybala is one of the hottest prospects in world football right now and currently leads the way in the Serie A scoring charts as we head into Autumn. The 23 year old would guarantee goals for your 5-a-side team, and that’s why we’ve chosen him to lead the line here.

Subs: Bonucci (AC Milan), Suso (AC Milan), Mertens (Napoli), Higuain (Juventus).

🇩🇪 Bundesliga – Germany

Goalkeeper: Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich) – The German number 1 needs no introduction here, he’s among the best goalkeepers of all time and is an easy pick for our Bundesliga dream team, the 6ft 4 shot stopper has made almost 200 appearances for Bayern Munich and has been first choice keeper for the German national side for years, winning the World Cup with them in 2014. He’s also won the Bundesliga 5 times and was part of Munich’s Champions League winning team in 2013.

Defender: Mats Hummels (Bayern Munich) – Former Dortmund defender Mats Hummels makes it into this list over some fiercely competitive rivals, the towering centre half is so composed on the ball and always looks to play out from the back which is obviously key when playing 5-a-side. He’s a strong, domineering presence and tough in the tackle as well, making him the perfect choice to anchor our Bundesliga XI.

Midfield: Naby Keita (RB Leipzig) – 22 year old Naby Keita has been so impressive during his first  season at Leipzig, so impressive in fact that he has agreed to join Liverpool next summer in a hope to light up the Premier League. The Guinean international can outrun anyone in the middle of the park and is so cute on the ball, finding pockets of space to create chances going forward for his side. He would be unbelievable in a close control game of 5-a-side, winning the ball back and keeping up energy levels for his team to thrive off!

Midfield: Andriy Yarmolenko (Borussia Dortmund) – This pick was an extremely difficult one, with so many quality midfielders in the Bundesliga it was so hard to pick who deserves a start in this side, but we think going off raw talent it should go to Andriy Yarmolenko. Dortmund signed the 27 year old winger from Dynamo Kiev after the departure of Ousmane Dembele to Barcelona in the summer and he looks to be a great signing, the Ukrainian has pace in abundance and is strong on the ball, making him the perfect 5-a-side player.

Striker: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) – Who else could this have possibly been? The Polish target man is one of the best strikers in world football and constantly finds the net for club and country when presented with half a chance. With 85 goals to his name in 103 appearances for Bayern Munich, the 29 year old could well be the deadliest striker on the planet right now, he can hold the ball up and bring the players around him into the game effortlessly, so is an easy choice for our team here.

Subs: Hübner (1899 Hoffenheim), Thiago (Bayern Munich), Robben (Bayern Munich), Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund).

🇬🇧 Premier League – England

Goalkeeper: David de Gea (Manchester United) – Spanish shot stopper De Gea has been the most sought after goalkeeper in world football in recent years, Real Madrid have been after his services for a number of years but he’s stayed put and now looks on course to be challenging for the title with the English giants this season; he’s quick, agile and a phenomenal technical modern day goalkeeper making his inclusion into this side a no brainer.

Defender: Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham Hotspur) – Belgian central defender Toby Alderweireld is one of the few players who can play the ball out from the back with such confidence and conviction. The former Southampton man has made over 60 appearances for both club and country and is wanted by some of the biggest clubs in world football right now. He would be the perfect defender for a 5-a-side team due to his composure and vision and acts as the foundations for our team here no questions asked.

Midfield: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) – Fellow Belgian De Bruyne has had a terrific start to the season and in one of the best midfielders in the world right now, his ability on the ball is unquestionable and has a game that is tailor made for 5-a-side, with intricate step overs, jaw dropping skills and the ability to curl the ball into the net from more or less anywhere on the pitch, he would be such a threat on the court and goes into our line up as first pick in midfield.

Midfield: Eden Hazard (Chelsea) – The third Belgian to feature in this team, Eden Hazard is the trickiest player to deal with in the Premier League, which makes him the perfect candidate for this team. The Chelsea man’s feet are one of the quickest in the world and the way he change up the pace and tempo of a game in a heartbeat is frightening. He’s technically one of the best around, has perfect vision and can pick passes nobody else can see on a football pitch, so goes into this team alongside De Bruyne in midfield.

Striker: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) – England striker Harry Kane is one of the deadliest finishers in the world and can score from pretty much anywhere, with either foot. The 24 year old is strong and nimble and will punish any side if given half a yard of space in the final third. With the creative players around him that are included in this side, he is the ideal man to sit up top and convert the chances they would create from deep.

Subs: Van Dijk (Southampton), Sanchez (Arsenal), Coutinho (Liverpool), Aguero (Manchester City).
