AFC Wimbledon v Peterborough Betting Tips & Odds

In our AFC Wimbledon v Peterborough betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Overview

League One’s final fixture of the weekend takes place at Kingsmeadow on Sunday afternoon as strugglers AFC Wimbledon host play off chasers Peterborough United. The hosts are currently level on points with 21st place Northampton going into this tie, and could well end up in the bottom 4 tonight as all of the teams surrounding them in the table play this afternoon. The visitors are currently 9th, but sit just a point outside the top six, so could easily finish the weekend in the play off’s should results elsewhere work in their favour.

Dons just a point from safety

The hosts for this encounter desperately need a win here if they’re to pull away from the relegation zone, Neal Ardley’s men have endured a challenging start to the season, winning just 4 of their opening 16 matches this term. The South Londoners could drop to as low as 23rd in the table with defeat here, providing either Bury, Gillingham or Northampton manage to get results in their respective fixtures, so vitally need to put in a stellar performance here on home soil if they’re to distance themselves from that dreaded drop zone this side of Christmas.

Last time out, Wimbledon travelled to The Valley to take on high fliers Charlton, and despite sharing an even split of possession, couldn’t prevent a 1-0 defeat thanks to a Ricky Holmes strike for the Addicks 10 minutes from time. That loss to Charlton followed a really disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to rock bottom Plymouth the week before; in a game that Wimbledon quite simply had to win, they put in a really underwhelming performance, dominating possession but failing to capitalise on their chances. Argyle winger Joel Grant punished the Dons just after the hour mark with a well taken goal, clinching Plymouth just their second win of the campaign.

Wimbledon could slip into the bottom four with a defeat here.

Posh with play off’s in their sights

Peterborough head into this clash in pretty poor form, they’ve only managed one win in their last six and have now slipped to 9th in the table as a result. Grant McAnn’s men have aspirations of promotion to the Championship this time out, they’ve been knocking on the door since their relegation from the second tier back in 2013, and will now feel as though it’s their time to really push on. Leading goalscorer Jack Marriott will be instrumental in the Posh’s promotion push this season, he’s got 10 league goals to his name this time out, the second most out of everyone in the league and will be looking to add to that here against a Wimbledon defence who have looked shaky at times this season.

Although wins have been hard to come by for Peterborough of late, they did manage to overcome table toppers Shrewsbury in their last league game a fortnight ago. 24 year old Marcus Maddison firing home inside 15 minutes to clinch all 3 points for the Cambridgeshire outfit after a fiercely contested battle at the ABAX Stadium. Maddison will be key in this clash as well, he links up so well with Jack Marriott, creating chances from that left hand side for the front man to get on the end of; if he’s on his game here, he could really pose a threat to Wimbledon.

Peterborough go into this clash on the back of a 1-0 win over table toppers Shrewsbury last time out.

Odds

On paper, the visitors are the stronger side here, they sit 11 places above the hosts in the table, just a point outside the play off’s in 9th. Peterborough also beat league leaders Shrewsbury in their last league outing a fortnight ago, so carry some good momentum into this tie. If you can see Posh clinching all 3 points here, you can get them at 7/4 with Ladbrokes. If you feel as though this match is set up for a home win, you can get Wimbledon to win at 6/4 with Coral, while the points to be shared tomorrow is best priced at 5/2 with BetBright.
