Barnsley v Bolton Betting Tips & Odds

In our Barnsley v Bolton betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

The Trotters travel to the Tykes on Saturday, to do battle in what may be considered one of the more important relegation six-pointers of the season. Barnsley haven’t won against their visitors in their last 12 meetings, in a run that stretches back to 1997. Bolton have won 3 in a row at Oakwell, though the last time they visited was back in 2013. Last time out Gary Madine’s double gave Bolton a 3-1 win. With Barnsley sat in the relegation zone, just a single win separates them and the prospect of safety. Bolton sit just a place above them, though the Tykes do have a game in hand on their counterparts.

Gary Madine settled the tie last time out

Tykes In Trouble

Despite being in the relegation zone, Barnsley managed to get one over on Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United last time out, as they hit two late goals to flip the game on the head and win 3-2. They’ll be looking to win back-to-back home matches for the first time since August, when they defeated Nottingham Forest and Sunderland. However, their form has been poor since Jose Morias took over as manager. They’ve won just 9 points during his reign, only Sunderland and Burton, the two teams directly below them, have taken less points in this period. Part of their problem has been lack of goals, only Tom Bradshaw as offered himself as a genuine goal threat, having struck 9 times this season, and he’s priced at 9/5 to make it into double figures against Bolton. Their run in doesn’t get any easier, with Leeds, Forest, Derby & Brentford all still to play, Barnsley need to get something from this game to stand any chance of survival.

Tom Bradshaw has scored 9 goals this season.

Trotters Tame In Front Of Goal

Phil Parkinson’s Bolton side have won just once in nine games, and with the Trotters sitting just 2 points above the relegation zone they’ll be keen to distance themselves from their opposition on Saturday. Whilst Bolton have a good record at Oakwell, they’ve won just once on the road this season, against Sheffield United. In fact, they’ve won just a single away match in their last 46 in the Championship, a truly appalling record, hence why they find themselves in a relegation scrap. Their last four games have produced no points and no goals scored, which has been part of their problem this season. Only Burton and Birmingham have been worse in front of goal this season, having scored only 34 times this year. Their goalscoring woes weren’t helped by Gary Madine’s departure to Cardiff in January. They still have Wolves, Burton and Forest to play after this one, so Parkisnon will be targeting a win against Burton as well as understanding that they need something from this game to survive.

Phil Parkinson’s men have been rather tame in-front of goal
