Betting Tips & Predictions – NFL Gameweek 10
In our NFL Betting Tips preview we look ahead to three selected matches in Gameweek 10 and give our predictions and betting tips.
Baltimore Ravens @ Dallas Cowboys – 6pm Sunday
The Ravens currently sit on top of the AFC North thanks to their oppenents in this fixture who defeated their divisional rivals, the Steelers, last week. The Ravens defence leads the NFL and is the key to their success so far this season allowing their opposition only 281.6 yards per game and holding the run to just 3.3 yards per carry which often forces quarterbacks to play the ball in the air. That said, their defence is worse on the road than at home, allowing 17 or more points in their last four away matches compared to holding visitors to 16 points or less four times in front of a home crowd and on the road at Dallas this weakness could well be exposed by league-leading Ezekiel Elliot. Joe Flacco has had a miserable season and currently ranks as one of the worst in the league, 29th in fact, with a passer rating of 78.3 overall. But like his defence, Flacco is worse on the road, throwing for just two touchdowns and six interceptions and they may well opt to rely on their inconsistent running game to unlock the Cowboys defence. Running back Terrence West currently leads with 587 yards but only three touchdowns although rookie Kenneth Dixon is gradually looking more at home in the pro-game.
The Dallas Cowboys lead the NFL after picking up their eighth straight victory and are arguably playing better than Super Bowl favourites the New England Patriots. The Cowboys have the two best rookies in the NFL in their offence. Dak Prescott currently occupies a top five position among his quarterback collegues in; passer rating, touchdown to interception ratio and yards per pass attempt. He was thrown into the mix after Tony Romo went off injured in the first game and hasn’t looked back and even with Romo now back to full fitness there’s no doubt who Dallas’ number one man in the pocket is. He had one of his best games of the season so far against the Steelers last week throwing two touchdowns for 319 yards and he’ll be looking to match that perfomance this week. Dallas’ rookie running back Ezekiel Elliot is single handedly keeping the MVP prize from finding its way into Tom Brady’s hands. Zeke has broken the thousand yard mark after just nine games. With 1,005 yards and nine touchdowns he is averaging 111.6 yards and one touchdown per game which would put him in contention for one of the greatest rookie seasons of all time. The Ravens are yet to play a team of Dallas’ calibre and will be found out when they come up against the best offensive line in the NFL and could well be blown away in this fixture.

New England Patriots @ San Francisco 49ers – 9.25pm Sunday
The Patriots will be keen to bounce back from a 31-24 defeat at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks. Franchise touchdown leader Rob Gronkowski suffered a punctured lung during that match and is set to sit this one out which will be a relief for Bill Belichick that this game is not against a tougher outfit. Tom Brady has continued his charge to another Super Bowl with 12 touchdown passes and only one interception since his return from suspension. It is expected that Martellus Bennett will slip in to the tight end position vacated by Gronkowski and he’s no second tier player with 504 receiving yards for four touchdowns. This could be a game where running back LeGarrette Blount fills his boots with yards and touchdowns as he goes up against the second worst run defence in the league. He already has 12 scores to his name which is three more than the unstoppable Ezekiel Elliot and while his other numbers aren’t as impressive, he is an expert at converting in the red zone. The Patriots could inflict some serious damage against a struggling 49ers, especially if they get a couple of early touchdowns and demoralise an already downbeat San Francisco.
The 49ers made progress last week, narrowly beaten by the Arizona Cardinals 23-20. Head coach Chip Kelly was pleased to see his side make progress but was also quick to point out that they were going up against arguably the greatest quarterback of all time in Tom Brady, ensuring his players and fans don’t get too carried away. Colin Kaepernick is continuing his rehabilitation back into the NFL with 210 pass yards and an impressive 55 rush yards but was let down by his offensive collegues. Backs Carlos Hyde and DeJuan Harris combined for a measly 28 rushing yards, Kaepernick virtually got double that on his own. The 49ers have been pretty hopeless at covering the spread this season with an ATS record of 1-7 for the season and 0-4 in their last four home ties while New England are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games so it’s easy to see why the Pats enter this one as 13 point favourites. Expect them to cover the spread and then some, possibly restricting the 49ers to less that 15 points.
