Blackburn v Charlton Betting Preview

In our Blackburn v Charlton betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Overview

Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn welcome Charlton to Ewood Park on Saturday for a big clash at the top of the table. The hosts are on an excellent run of form at the moment which has seen them climb up into third position and they’re now within touching distance of the automatic promotion spots. Rovers fans have seen their side come out on top in their previous five league games and they’ll fancy their chances of picking up another which could see them move into second. The visitors make the trip north just three places below their opponents and Karl Robinson will know just how important this game is. They’re currently five points behind Blackburn and a victory here would send out a huge statement to their rivals that they mean business.

Five wins from five for improving Rovers

In pre-season all the talk was around Blackburn and how they were going to romp to the League One title after suffering their agonising relegation from the Championship back in May. Tony Mowbray has assembled a strong squad up at Ewood Park which looks more than capable of winning automatic promotion and their recent good form has put them right up in contention. Fifteen points from a possible fifteen has seen them go up to third and they’re now just a point behind second placed Shrewsbury Town and five from leaders Wigan – so the race is certainly hotting up. They’ve recovered well from a poor start which saw them lose their opening two games and with some favourable fixtures to come over the festive period they have a real opportunity to get some points on the board.

Tony Mowbray’s men were last in action seven days ago when they made the trip to London Road to take on Grant McCann’s out of form Peterborough United side. It looked a difficult game on paper for Rovers but they produced an excellent counter attacking performance to battle from a goal behind to come out 3-2 winners. Goals from Bradley Dack (2) and the in-form Charlie Mulgrew sealed an important victory and ensured that they won their fourth successive game on the road. There’s been several major contributors to Blackburn’s upturn in fortunes in recent weeks but not many have done more than Mulgrew, who’s proving that he’s far better than this level. The influential centre half has scored a staggering eight league goals this season and he’s a massive threat with his aerial & technical ability. Five of those have come in his last five games and we can see him having another big say here.

Blackburn have lost just one of their last thirteen league games

One win in five for out of sorts Charlton

Making the long trip north are Karl Robinson’s Charlton Athletic who’ve come unstuck slightly over the last few weeks. The Addicks have won just one of their previous five league games which has seen them fall six points away from the automatic promotion spots, along with allowing Portsmouth in seventh to catch with them just three away. This is a huge stage of the season for them and they need to come out festive period with plenty of points or they could start the new year outside the play-offs. Athletic are desperate to get back in the Championship after being relegated last May and enduring a very disappointing 16/17 and they certainly look like they can achieve a top six finish, they just need to get through this blip.

In Robinson they have a manager vastly experienced at this level and he knows what it takes to get promoted, after taking MK Dons to the Championship back in 2015. But if his side are to do that they really need to improve after a dismal few weeks for the club. They’ve failed to win any of their previous three league games which includes defeats against two sides around them in Scunthorpe (2-0) and most recently Portsmouth (1-0) – who stole a precious three points at the Valley courtesy of a Josh Magennis own goal. They have a lot of improving to do if they’re to grab a result here and they could find themselves in real trouble if they get off to a bad start, so it’ll be interesting to see how it goes. Current form points towards a Blackburn win which looks pretty well priced at SkyBet, with them coming in at 4/5.
