Blackburn v Shrewsbury Betting Tips & Odds

In our Blackburn v Shrewsbury betting preview we look at what could possibly be the best bets between the two sides.

Two of League One’s strongest sides go up against each other this weekend when second place Shrewsbury travel to Lancashire to take on third place Blackburn Rovers. This game promises to be an entertaining spectacle considering where both teams lie in the league table at the moment, the visitors are just five points behind the hosts going into this fixture, so could really close the gap here with an important win.

It’s second versus third in League One this weekend as Blackburn host Shrewsbury.

Blackburn draw specialists in recent outings

The hosts go into this match having drawn three of their previous four league games, so will be desperately looking to get back to winning ways here against one of their main rivals for promotion. Although Blackburn have been held in previous weeks by Rotherham, Scunthorpe and Northampton, they haven’t lost since the 14th October. An astonishing fourteen match unbeaten run throughout the back end of October, November, December and the start of January has seen Tony Mowbray’s men catapult to third in League One, just seven points behind leaders Wigan Athletic after twenty-five games.

The former Premier League boys will be hopeful of promotion this term, and will feel as though they have a squad capable of challenging for the title in these forthcoming months should they continue playing the same way as they have been up until this stage. With the likes of Bradley Dack chipping in with ten goals from midfield, whilst also creating chances from deep for front man Danny Graham to get on the end of, Rovers have a strong attacking threat going forward this term. Defensively they’ve been sound too, conceding just twenty-three goals all season, with only nine of those goals conceded coming at Ewood Park; a stat that shows just how strong the hosts are on home soil.

Tony Mowbray Blackburn

Tony Mowbray’s men could close the gap between themselves and Shrewsbury to just two points with a win here.

Shrews unbeaten in six

Second place Shrewsbury travel North searching for their seventh straight win in League One. The divisions surprise package have shocked most people this season and now sit just two points behind league leaders Wigan ahead of this weekend’s fixture with Blackburn. A win here for Paul Hurst’s men could see them leapfrog the Latics into top spot, should Wigan fail to beat Peterborough in their game on Saturday afternoon. A loss to Blackburn however, would see the gap between the two sides shortened to just two points, so it’s vital they put in a solid performance at Ewood Park to distance themselves from Tony Mowbray’s men.

The visitors have an extremely impressive defensive record this season, they’ve conceded just fifteen goals since the campaign kicked off back in August, and have now kept four clean sheets in their last five matches. Only Wigan have a better defensive record than Shrewsbury this term, and with Blackburn also proving to be an incredibly tough side to break down this time out, we can see this game being an extremely tight affair. With that said, an under 2.5 goal bet could be a good option in this one, that’s currently priced at 8/13 with SkyBet. The last time these two sides met was back in September where it ended in a 1-1 draw at New Meadow, if you can see a repeat of that score line this time around, you can get it priced at 6/1 Betfair.
