Brentford v Cardiff Betting Tips & Odds – 13/03/18

In our Brentford v Cardiff betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Brentford welcome promotion chasing Cardiff to Griffin Park Tuesday evening. Both teams will be desperate for a win as they push for promotion. Cardiff are currently second in the League with a four point cushion from Aston Villa in third. Neil Warnock’s side have won their last six games in a row and will be hoping for another win to keep their hold on second place. Brentford come into the game with their playoff hopes hanging by a thread, a loss here and they will need to go on a long winning run to stand any chance of finishing in the top six. A Brentford win and they go five points behind sixth and will still have an outside chance of finishing in the playoffs at the end of the season.

Brentford playoff hopes hang by a thread

The host Brentford have had back to back mid-table finishes in the last two seasons. If the Bees fail to win against Cardiff they look set for another mid-table finish. Brentford lack the financial backing of a lot of the Championship clubs and work with an analytical approach when signing players. The analytical approach that Brentford takes means they pick up lesser known players that will bring desirably statistics to how they intend to play for a low cost. The latest of these players to shine is Ollie Watkins, who after arriving from Exeter City in the summer has been one of their standout players scoring ten goals from midfield. With players being bought and sold for over £15 million in the Championship, taking gambles on lesser known players like Watkins for £1.8 million seems to be working for Brentford.

Brentford fans might feel hard done by to not be closer to the playoff positions than they currently are due to a poor start to the season. Their season began will a sizeable number of draws, despite having large number of opportunities to win those games they never managed to finish them off. Brentford now are still creating large number of chances, contributing to them having the most shots in the League with 17.5 per game. It seems that Brentford will never be sort of chances but finishing them off and keeping them out the other end still needs improvement if they want to be in the top six at the end of the season.

Brentford will be looking for a win to keep their playoff hopes alive

Cardiff are currently sitting second four points clear of the playoffs

Cardiff are one of the Championship’s surprise packages, after a twelve place finish last season not many people would of had Neil Warnock’s side as promotion candidates. They currently lie second in the League and with a four point gap between them and third place Aston Villa they are in a good position to stay there come the end of the season. On the back of six wins in a row Cardiff have found form at the right time in the season and another win here against Brentford will only strengthen their claim for automatic promotion. With both Aston Villa (third) and Fulham (fourth) both in fine form Cardiff will need to keep up their winning ways to finish second at the end of the season.

Neil Warnock has constructed a very strong and powerful team capable of bullying teams to get a win. Cardiff are one of the top scoring teams from set plays scoring sixteen so far and with the likes of Kenneth Zohore in the side they are likely to get more. Despite Cardiff’s position in the League they have the worst pass accuracy in the Championship, suggesting that they play long balls that Zohore and their other big men can knock down in the path of their pacy wingers and midfielders. Callum Paterson has been the latest benefactor of this scoring two goals in his last two games and with Cardiff’s tactics working so well at the moment he will be looking to add to his tally.
