Burton v QPR Betting Tips & Odds

In our Burton v QPR betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Overview

Nigel Clough’s Burton Albion welcome QPR to the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday looking to pick up a massive three points in their fight against the drop. The Brewers come into the weekend currently down in 22nd position after a tough first half of the campaign which has seen them manage to accumulate just 24 points. However they have managed to win three of their previous five in the league which has enabled them to climb off the foot of the division, with just goal difference separating themselves and safety. Their opponents come in the form of QPR who aren’t doing too well themselves, with Ian Holloway’s men just six points above the drop zone. They’ve won just two of their previous eleven league games and they really need to start picking up results soon with some difficult fixtures on the horizon.

Struggling Burton starting to improve

This season was always going to be an immensely difficult one for Burton Albion after surprising everyone and staying up last term. The Brewers made history by winning promotion and retaining their Championship status for the first time and boss Nigel Clough will be desperate to write another chapter. Albion have one of the smallest budgets in the division and it is very difficult for them to compete with some of the bigger clubs, which is shown by the league table. The Brewers are currently down in 22nd position and have spent pretty much all the campaign down in the bottom three, which is very concerning. But the last few weeks have provided some encouragement for their supporters, with them on a solid run of form which has seen them start creeping up the table.

Ten points from a possible eighteen makes them one of the divisions in-form sides and it’s seen them climb to within just goal difference of safety which has raised spirits around the club. A big 2018 is required for them to get out the predicament they’re in but they proved last year that they’re capable of climbing away from trouble. They come into the weekend on a fine run in the league which has seen them lose one of their previous five, which includes a superb 3-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday on New Year’s Day – where goals from Tom Flanagan, Lloyd Dyer and Tom Naylor did the business at Hillsborough. They were last in action on Saturday when they took on Birmingham at St. Andrews, going down to a 1-0 defeat which was disappointing but the league is the main focus, so three points here are essential.

Must win for QPR

Facing Burton are Ian Holloway’s QPR who come into this clash in desperate need of a victory. They may not be in the relegation zone like their opponents but they’re on a shocking run of form which has seen them win just two of their previous eleven league games. As it stands they’re currently just six points above the relegation zone and a defeat here could cut that to just three points, so it’s imperative that they avoid defeat here. Their struggles this season has resulted in Holloway getting put under a fair bit of pressure and the experienced manager will know just how important this came is, so it’ll be interesting to see how he approaches it.

They make the trip to Staffordshire on the back of a mixed twelve days, which summed up just how inconsistent this Rangers side can be. First they defeated Neil Warnock’s promotion chasing Cardiff City 2-1 at Loftus Road back on New Year’s Day – producing a superb performance battle back from behind to win courtesy of efforts from Matt Smith & Paul Smyth to really raise spirits around the club. But then last weekend they exited the FA Cup to League One opposition in MK Dons, who rolled out 1-0 winners in West London to again put the pressure on Holloway. Like Burton, the league is the priority but to exit the cup in the manner they did and at home would’ve really angered their boss and supporters, so we’re expecting a response here as they look to avoid getting sucked into even more trouble.
