Bury v Peterborough Betting Preview – 14/01/17

Bury v Peterborough Betting Preview

In our Bury v Peterborough betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Chris Brass’ Bury welcome Peterborough United to Gigg Lane looking to pick up their first win in seventeen games. The Shakers are on a shocking run of form and it’s seen them plummet from second down into the relegation zone. They’ve lost 14 of their last 16 and their situation is looking increasingly bleak with each game that goes by. Peterborough on the other hand are up in ninth and they have a spot in the top six in their sights. Grant McCann’s men are just two points outside the play-offs with two games in hand on some of their rivals.

It’s been a season of extremes for Bury and their supporters to date. The Shakers kicked off the campaign in fantastic form, winning six of their first ten fixtures and they were up in second position at the end of September. But a bizarre run of form has seen them plummet down the table and they now find themselves in big trouble. Bury supporters saw their side lose a ridiculous twelve games in a row and it’s resulted in them dropping into the relegation zone. And although they’re only in there on goal difference, it will take some effort to get out the rot they’re in and turn around their season.

Bury ended their twelfth game run of defeats over the festive period with back-to-back draws away at Fleetwood (0-0) & Bradford City (1-1), but normal service has been resumed in 2017. The Shakers took on two of the top three and despite showing some signs of life they went down to defeats in each of those games. They first went down 3-1 to top of the table Sheffield United before being beaten by Scunthorpe on Saturday. Brass’ men displayed some decent battling qualities but unfortunately it wasn’t enough for them to come back and get the three points – losing 3-2.

In contrast, Peterborough United’s season has ran much more smoothly than their opponents and they’re making good progress under Grant McCann. Posh have been in and around the top six for the entirety of the campaign and they’re looking like genuine play-off contenders. United are a difficult side to beat and they carry a strong goal threat with the likes of Tom Nichols, Marcus Maddison and Gwion Edwards in attack – with the trio contributing 19 of the 38 goals they’ve hit in the league this season. They enter this clash in pretty decent form too, they’ve been beaten just once in their last eight games.

However three draws in their last three games have seen them lose pace on some of the sides around them. They’re now 14 points away from the top two and it would take some effort from them to break in there. Ties against Gillingham (1-1), Coventry (1-1) & most recently Scunthorpe (1-1) have halted their progress slightly. The draw with The Iron was a step in the right direction, producing a big performance to force an own goal from Charlie Goode with just seven minutes on the clock. They were last in action on Sunday when they made the trip to Chelsea in the FA Cup – Posh went down 4-1 to the Premier League leaders on a tough afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

There’s a lot on the line for both of these sides here and we’re expecting an entertaining, open game. Bury are desperate for three points and if they managed to get that elusive win here it’ll give them a much needed morale boost. Peterborough’s league form has been solid but with the race for the top six starting to hot up, they’ll be eager to get a victory. And we think they should have just about enough to get the job done here. We’re backing the visitors to win this one with BTTS (11/4) and we’re also tipping them to score plenty of goals. Posh to net in both halves is available at a big 17/10 and looks well priced.
