Cambridge United v Leeds United Betting Preview

In our Cambridge United v Leeds United betting preview we look at the best possible betting tips between the two sides.

On Monday evening this week in the third round of the FA Cup we see Garry Monk take his Championship Leeds United side on the trip to The Abbey Stadium to face Sean Derry’s League Two Cambridge United. Although these two teams are two divisions apart, this will not be an easy task for the Yorkshire giants coming up against a team who will be bang up for it.

The home side Cambridge United head into the visit of Leeds United knowing that with the way in which they are playing at the moment then they are fully capable of causing an upset here. The U’s started extremely slowly this season, and after just eight matches found themselves sat at the foot of the table after collecting just three points. However they’ve picked up an impressive eleven wins in their last sixteen League Two fixtures, and are unbeaten in their last seven with six of wins and a draw from those seven. This fantastic run of form has seen them climb into the play off spots and into seventh place, level on points with Luton Town in sixth and two points ahead of Colchester in eighth. If they win here then it will be five straight home wins on the bounce, and it is absolutely vital for any team who wants to be successful that they make their home ground into a fortress. In the first round of this competition, they were drawn against National League side Dover Athletic and required a replay in order to get through to the next stage. In the last round they were drawn against struggling League One team Coventry City who they brushed aside with a comfortable 4-0 victory.

Their most recent match was on Monday afternoon when they welcomed John Sheridan’s Notts County to the Abbey Stadium. The only goal of the first half came after 18 minutes curtesy of Luke Berry which came in bizarre circumstances when he charged down the keepers kick which deflected into goal. In a chaotic 12 minute second half spell, Notts County found themselves 4-0 down with the game done and dusted. Luke Berry got a brace along with goals from Uche Ikpeazu and Piero Mingoia. This was the straw that broke the camels back as Sheridan was sacked following this result.

The away side Leeds United go into the trip to Cambridge United hoping that they won’t be the victim of a classic FA Cup upset. It will be interesting to see what sort of side that Garry Monk puts out here on Monday. They are doing fantastically well in the league so far this season and they have a huge game coming up on Friday night when they welcomed Derby County to Elland Road who are just below them in the table. So Monk will not want to risk his main players, so it is likely to be a very young Leeds United side who haven’t had much game time this year. On the other hand he will still want to put out a team capable of winning and progressing into the next round. They currently find themselves sat in an impressive fifth place in the table, just one point off third place. They unbeaten in their last five matches so confidence is sky high throughout the club. Their current top scorer Chris Wood has an impressive thirteen goals to his name so far but he is likely to be rested here.

Their most recent game was on Monday afternoon when they welcomed Paul Warne’s relegation favourites Rotherham United to Elland Road. Leeds actually struggled first half with the Millers having the better of the few chances, but Monk changed things up at half tine and it worked perfectly. Leeds dominated the whole second period and came away with a convincing 3-0 victory and if it wasn’t for the woodwork it could’ve been 5. Kyle Bartley opened the scoring with a header and Chris Wood notched himself a brace with his first being particularly impressive.
