Cardiff City v Fulham Betting Preview – 08/01/17

In our Cardiff City v Fulham betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

There’s an all Championship clash at the Cardiff City Stadium as Cardiff City take on Fulham with a spot in the FA Cup fourth round up for grabs. The hosts come into this clash on a high after overcoming Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa on Monday afternoon. An early Joe Ralls effort proved to be the difference between the two sides and it sets them up nicely for this one. The visitors suffered a first defeat in five in their last outing when they were beaten by Championship leaders Brighton. It was a tough afternoon for Slavisa Jokanovic’s men but they’ll be confident they can get back to winning ways here.

It’s been a traumatic 16/17 for Cardiff City and their supporters but it’s slowly starting to look like they’re discovering some form. The arrival of Neil Warnock at the club back at the start of October has seen them become a hard side to beat and no one enjoys facing them. The Bluebirds have been beaten once in their last seven games and just four times in his thirteen games at the helm – much better than their seven defeats in their opening eleven games. And their victory on Monday against Aston Villa was another reminder of the progress their making under the former Sheffield United boss.

They produced a typically organised performance which saw them edge out The Villans and pick up their second home win in three games. Joe Ralls was the hero for City and another performance of the same ilk will give them a great chance of getting the victory here. Cardiff’s recent form on home soil will give them plenty of confidence too, they’ve been beaten just twice in front of their own supporters under Warnock and they’ve picked up some big results in the process against the likes of Huddersfield (3-2), Bristol City (2-1) & Wolves (2-1).

Fulham are enjoying a strong season under Slavia Jokanovic and they’ll have their eyes set on a strong run in the cup. The Cottagers are up in tenth position in the Championship and they have a real chance of finishing in the top six. The improvement they’ve made over the last few months in going from a side involved in a relegation battle last term to one now capable of a promotion push is quite incredible and they’re now one of the most feared sides in the Championship. They’ve beaten the likes of Newcastle (1-0), Huddersfield (5-0) & Reading (5-0) and when they’re on song they’re very dangerous.

One of the most impressive things about Fulham’s performances this season has been their ability to grab results on the road. Only three teams in the Championship have picked up more points on their travels than The Cottagers and they’re well suited to playing away from home. The pace and power they have in attack with the likes of Chris Martin, Floyd Ayite and Sone Aluko makes them a big threat on the break and we can see them causing this City backline all sorts of problems. Aluko is one man who’s really impressed us this season and we can see the former Hull City man being the difference here.

Both of these sides will come into this clash seeing it as a huge opportunity to go through to the next round and we’re expecting an open game at the Cardiff City Stadium. The hosts will be full of confidence after getting a win over Villa and they’ll give Fulham a real run for their money. But we’re expecting the visitors have too much quality for Neil Warnock’s men, their away form is very impressive and we’re expecting them to take the tournament very serious. A Fulham win with both sides getting on the scoresheet is available at 7/2 and looks very well priced.
