Champions League Group C Round-Up – 06/12/16
In our Champions League Group C Round-Up we look at the best possible betting tips for these fixtures.
Manchester City v Celtic
On Tuesday evening in Group C we see Brendan Rodgers take his Celtic side on the trip to the Etihad Stadium in Manchester to face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
These two sides met in the reverse fixture on match day two when Manchester City made the trip to Celtic Park to face Celtic. This turned out to be another thrilling Champions League evening in Glasgow which saw six goals, split three a piece. It was the perfect start for the hosts when they took the lead after just three minutes. A pull back found Moussa Dembele unmarked and he bundled the ball over the line. It only took City nine minutes to respond thanks to Fernandinho who broke the offside trap and finished calmly. The hosts regained the lead on twenty minutes when Raheem Sterling put the ball in his own net but he made up for the error not long after when he levelled it up after a smart turn. The Glaswegians regained the lead just three minutes into the second half with a superb acrobatic goal from Dembele. But yet again the visitors pulled level when a rebound fell to Nolito who couldn’t miss. That ended up being the final goal of an entertaining encounter.
The home side Manchester City head into the visit of Celtic knowing that no matter what happens, their final position in the group will not change. Guardiola’s boys have finished in second place in the group after winning two, drawing two and losing one from their five group games. This leaves them four points behind the leaders Barcelona and three points above Borussia Monchengladbach who even if they win and go level with City, will not overtake them due to the head to head rule. Although it doesn’t matter what happens here on Tuesday, they will want to continue their winning momentum and go into the round of 16 full of confidence.
The away side Celtic go into the trip to Manchester City knowing that regardless of the result here on Tuesday, they are on their way out of the competition in bottom place. They have yet to win a single group game so far this campaign, managing just two points after drawing twice and losing the other three. Although they would like to get a result in Manchester, you would imagine that Rodgers will be resting his key players. The likes of Moussa Dembele will be unlikely to feature and some of the fringe players who were placed in the 25 man squad will more than likely get a run out. With neither side playing with any pressure this one will probably see a few goals.

Barcelona v Borussia Monchengladbach
On Tuesday evening this week in Group C we see André Schubert take his Borussia Monchengladbach side on the trip to the Camp Nou in Spain to face Luis Enrique’s Barcelona.
These two sides met in the reverse fixture on match day two when Barcelona made the trip to Borussia-Park in Germany to face Borussia Monchengladbach. The hosts will have been devastated at the fact that they threw away a lead and more importantly vital points which would’ve meant that this match on Tuesday would mean something. Monchengladbach tool the lead in the 34th minute thanks to Thorgan Hazard. Some smart interplay sent him one on one and he made no mistake. The Catalan side drew level after 65 minutes when Arda Turan was sent through and he fired it into the roof of the net. They got their winner just ten minutes after curtesy of Gerard Pique. The goalkeeper couldn’t hold onto a shot and the skipper pounced on the loose ball to poke home the winner.
The home side Barcelona head into the visit of Borussia Monchengladbach knowing that regardless of what happens here on Tuesday evening that they will be progressing through to the round of 16 in the first place seed. They’ve collected 12 points from their opening five fixtures after winning four of them and losing just one. The game they did lose was away at Manchester City after an inspired second half performance from their ex-manager Pep Guardiola’s boys. Although it doesn’t matter what the result is, they will want to go into the next stage full of confidence and hoping that they can be European Champions for the second time in three years.
The away side Borussia Monchengladbach go into the trip to Barcelona knowing that it doesn’t matter what happens here, because they will be heading into the Europa League knockout phase. They find themselves sat in third place in the group after collecting just five points from their five matches. They’ve won just the once which was away at Celtic where they came away with a 2-0 victory. They will be playing for pride here and if they manage to come away with even just a point it will send them into the Europa League with a renewed load of confidence. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see them field a slightly weaker side, but so will their hosts.
