Champions League Group F Betting Tips & Odds

In our Champions League Group F betting preview we look at the best possible bets from both fixtures.

Feyenoord v Manchester City

Manchester City get their Champions League adventure with a trip to Rotterdam to take on Feyenoord.

Feyenoord hoping for second Manchester scalp in a twelve months

Feyenoord make their return to the Champions League in a tough group containing Manchester City, Shakhtar & Napoli. The Eredivise outfit secured their place in Europe’s elite competition courtesy of winning the domestic title for the first time in 18 years. Former Arsenal full back Giovanni van Bronckhorst is the man who’s masterminded their renaissance and he’s forged himself a big reputation in management over in his native Holland. They come into this group not expected to qualify for the knockout round but they’ll be confident they can cause a couple of upsets & put themselves in contention, particularly at home.

They have good experience facing some of Europe’s top clubs, with them getting one over on City’s bitter rivals Manchester United in the Europa League last September. Tonny Vilhena scored the only goal of the game to beat the Premier League side and it’s a result they’ll draw an awful lot of confidence from it. Their preparation for the game has been excellent too. They’ve begun the domestic season on fire winning all four of their games which is the perfect preparation and we’re expecting them to make things tough for the visitors. They’ve been victorious in their last 15 games at De Kuip and we’re expecting them to put on a show here.

Pep & Manchester City yearning for Champions League success

When Pep Guardiola was appointed as Manchester City boss back at the start of 2016 it was firmly with the Champions League in mind. The blueprint for success at City leads up to winning this highly coveted prize and you get the feel that his time at the club could be evaluated on their success in the competition like at his former club Bayern Munich – so that makes this a huge season for him. City have begun it like a house on fire, winning three of their four Premier League games and playing some magnificent football in the process. It now looks like the Spaniard has really instilled his identity onto the football club and there’s some really exciting times ahead for City fans. They’ve been given tough Champions League group draws in pretty much all of their campaigns in the competition, but this year is different as they come in as favourites.

Pep’s expensively assembled squad would’ve been delighted when they saw the draw with them expected to go through in top spot but they do have some tough tests coming their way – with this being a big one. They’ve failed to win in their last four on the road in the Champions League but this new look City is full of confidence and we’re expecting them to come out on top here. Everywhere you look on the pitch their side is bustling with top players and they come into this clash on a high following their 5-0 thrashing of Liverpool on Saturday. When they’re in full flow there aren’t many better sides going forward in world football and we can see the likes of Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne & Gabriel Jesus doing some serious damage here.

Shakhtar v Napoli

Group F’s other game comes at the Donbass Arena where Shakhtar host Napoli.

Shakhtar looking to make home advantage count

With Manchester City favourites to win qualification from Group F, Shakhtar will see their clashes with Napoli as being extremely important. The Ukrainian outfit have a long history in the Champions League but they missed out on the competition last season, going down in the qualifying rounds. So they’ll be eager to make an impression on their return and if they’re to do that, they’ll need to win all of their home games to stand a chance of progressing. A trip to Ukraine is always a tough proposition for any opposing side and they need to make the Donbass a fortress.

Their home record is very impressive over the last twelve months, winning 28 of their 34 games there but in returning to the Champions League they face a higher calibre of opponent in Napoli. Shakhtar’s side on paper is definitely weaker than that of their opponents but they do have some very exciting players in their ranks. It’s safe to say defending isn’t their strong point, but in attack they really come alive with the Brazilian trio of Fred, Bernard & Taison the standout threat. They will be playing the majority of the game without the ball here so they should have plenty of chances to break on the counter attack – if they can release any of those three they’ll have a chance at getting something.

Rampant Napoli looking to make mark in Europe

Napoli come into the Champions League on the back a magnificent 16/17 which saw them establish themselves as one of the most devastating attacking forces on the continent. Overseen by boss Maurizio Sarri, Napoli went onto score a jaw dropping 94 Serie A goals – that’s 17 more than Champions Juventus. And if they were a little more organised defensively they could’ve pushed Juve a lot closer than they, with them ending up five points off the pace. Their performances won plenty of admirers and they’ll now be looking follow it up in Europe. Last season they exited the Champions League in the first knockout round at the hands of eventual winners Real Madrid 6-2 on aggregate and they’ll be eager to go further this time.

Their form coming into match day one of the competition is magnificent, with Sarri’s men winning 18 of their last 22 games in all competitions. This Napoli side is built on goals and it’s what they’re all about, as shown by their previous seven Serie A games. They’ve hit three or more in all of those matches which highlights just how dangerous they can be and we’re expecting them to really enjoy themselves in front of goal here – making BTTS & over 2.5 goals look a very good option. One man who’s reaped the rewards of Sarri’s arrival at the club is Dries Mertens, who came alive following the departure of Gonzalo Higuain. The enigmatic Belgian is up there with the best false nines in world football at the moment – he scores goals, causes mayhem on & off the ball whilst being an excellent link between attack & midfield. He’ll start here and we’re backing him to hit the back of the net (13/10).

If they get off to a good start Napoli could run riot in Donetsk
