Sky Bet Championship Betting Tips!

The Championship is back underway in August and it is particularly intriguing this season with the addition of a couple of very big clubs. Sunderland will grace English footballs second tier this term after suffering relegation from the Premier League last season but won’t be as heavily backed for an immediate return like their rivals Newcastle United were last season. The other teams who join them in the Championship are Hull City and Middlesbrough. Looking at the the three of them you have to fancy Boro to finish the highest out of them. He turned a poor Leeds United team into play-off challengers last year and for some reason decided he didn’t want to stay on at Elland Road. Their loss is Boro’s gain though and looking at their squad they are best suited to do well in the Championship. Looking at the bookies odds they have Aston Villa as favourites for promotion as short as just 2/1. They spent a fortune last year but massively underachieved finishing in 13th. Owner Tony Xia isn’t changing his policy though, they have made arguably the biggest profile signing of the summer in the form of John Terry from Chelsea. Sheffield Wednesday will be there or thereabouts yet again but one dark horse to keep an eye on will be Wolves. They are spending some serious cash, reportedly close to a £16m signing of Ruben Neves from Porto.

At the other end it looks as unpredictable as ever, but the bookmakers are tipping Burton Albion, Bolton Wanderers and Barnsley to struggle. Burton are undoubtedly the smallest club in the division but in Nigel Clough they have a manager who knows how to survive in the Championship so do not expect them to be whipping boys. He did brilliantly last season to keep them in the division but you have to wonder whether it will be a case of second season syndrome. The promoted Bolton Wanderers haven’t made any noticeable signings that would strike you as Championship proven. Barnsley are quite unfortunate in the fact that it seems every time they put a decent squad together they get raided by the bigger teams and have to start all over again.

In a fast paced and physical league where goals are a plenty it is really wide open with a whole host of sides willing to risk big money and wage bills to get back to the promised land of the Premier League.
