Chelsea v Leicester Betting Preview

In our Chelsea v Leicester betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea welcome Leicester City to Stamford Bridge on Saturday looking to pick up a big three points. The Blues come into this clash as big favourites but they’re without a win in their previous three outings, being held to a draw on all three occasions. But they know that a victory here will at least temporarily take them up into second position ahead of Manchester United so there’s a lot of motivation for them. The visitors make the trip to the capital on a poor run of form however, with Claude Puel’s men winning just one of their previous seven games in all competitions. They were last in action a week ago when they were held to a goalless draw by Fleetwood and they’ll really need to improve here if they’re to claim would be a shock victory.

Twelve unbeaten at the Bridge for Chelsea

It’s been a testing second season in charge of Chelsea for boss Antonio Conte, who’ll have mixed feelings on how they’ve fared so far. The Blues are currently a third in the Premier League, one point behind second placed Manchester United and a whopping 16 behind leaders Manchester City which is very concerning. They’ve picked up nine points fewer than they did at this stage twelve months ago which isn’t great, so their aim this time round is to finish inside the top three and secure automatic Champions League qualification. There’s been several factors that have impacted on Chelsea’s season but the main thing that’s cost them keeping up with City is their lack of consistency, with them finding it tough to break down some of the divisions smaller clubs.

Chelsea have already dropped points against the likes of West Ham (L1-0), Crystal Palace (L2-1) & Burnley (L3-2) which is very unlike a Conte side and that’s whats ultimately cost them pushing on and competing with City. The Blues were last in action on Wednesday night when they took on London rivals Arsenal in a big EFL Cup semi-final clash at Stamford Bridge. They went into it as big favourites to come out on top but a series of missed opportunities and a failure to expose a below par Gunners side ensured that the game ended in a stalemate. That ensured they drew their third successive game in all competitions and with some big clashes to come over the next few weeks they need to get back on track soon and they’ll fancy their chances here – with them currently 12 unbeaten at home.

Eden Hazard

Chelsea fans will be looking to star man Eden Hazard to end their run of three games without a victory

Honeymoon period over for Puel

Making the trip to West London are Claude Puel’s Leicester who after a decent start to life under the Frenchmen are really struggling at the moment. The Foxes have won just one of their previous seven games in all competitions which has brought boss Claude Puel back down to earth. City still hold a decent position in the league with them currently in eighth position but they’ll be desperate to push on as much as possible and try close the gap on the likes of Burnley and Arsenal, who’re just above them. If they’re to do that then they need to start picking up results and fast as they have a decent run of fixtures coming up against the likes of Watford, Swansea & Everton. But first they have a huge job on their hands here as they attempt to make the trip back to the King Power with three points.

They were last in action on Saturday when they fielded a much rotated side in Lancashire to take on Fleetwood at Highbury. It gave some of Puel’s squad players the opportunity to impress and they found it tough against the League One side, with the hosts creating some decent opportunities late on which almost saw them take all three points. They ended up drawing 0-0 which ensured they sealed an unwanted replay at the King Power meaning more games to an already busy schedule which won’t please Puel. He’ll be boosted here though by the return of some of his key men to the starting XI here, with the likes of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez in line for recalls from the start – but we’re not expecting their returns to be enough for them to get anything here.
