Chelsea v Manchester United Betting Preview

In our Chelsea v Manchester United betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Overview

All eyes are focused on Wembley Stadium this Saturday, as Antonio Conte’s Chelsea face Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United in the FA Cup Final. Chelsea appeared in last season’s FA Cup Final but simply couldn’t match Arsenal, who’ve been solid in the tournament over recent years, achieving the record of thirteen wins. They’ll be looking to finish the job this time around but with reported issues behind closed doors at Stamford Bridge, it’s hard to completely believe their chances of success. Manchester United won the Europa League and EFL Cup last season so see this as their only chance of silverware this season, as falling out of the Champions League early and finishing second in the Premier League has left some fans underwhelmed.

Chelsea are out for revenge after losing in last year’s FA Cup

It’s been a strange season for everyone involved at Chelsea, who’ve gone from being deserved Premier League champions in the previous attempt, to looking disillusioned in the man that led them to glory. Antonio Conte was reportedly unhappy with the way in which Chelsea operated their transfer business when he first joined the club but stayed and went on to win the league. The same issue appears to have come about this season but many see it as being too late for him to change his mind, leaving this as his final chance to get one last piece of silverware.

The Italian manager is one of the world’s best and has shown that through his time at Chelsea and previous jobs as manager of Italy and Juventus. It’s hard to see Chelsea finding a man quite as organised and world-renowned as Conte but if his reported issues with owner Roman Abramovich are true, there’s no way of getting past that for all involved. Chelsea are currently in poor form, beating Liverpool (1-0) to offer a glimmer of hope but missing out on a place in next year’s Champions League campaign through a draw with Huddersfield Town (1-1) and a final day defeat to Newcastle United (3-0). Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata have fluctuated in form but sit with a combined twenty-three goals and ten assists combined. The January arrival of Olivier Giroud has had a big impact, with him scoring three times and being a big threat.

A thirteenth FA Cup win for Manchester United would match Arsenal’s record tally

After finding themselves knocked out of the EFL Cup against Championship side Bristol City and falling out of the Champions League at home to Sevilla, the FA Cup has shown itself as being Manchester United’s only viable opportunity to conquer this season. They’d spent moments having hope of surpassing Manchester City as title favourites but with Pep Guardiola’s men being practically unstoppable, it was hard to keep up for long. Their rival’s success has made this one a must win and in Jose Mourinho they have one of the most competitive managers on the planet, so he’ll be geared up to capitalise here against his former employers.

Last year’s wins in the Europa League and EFL Cup excited Manchester United fans over how far they could go under former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho but he’s currently falling short in their minds. Their style of play has them focusing on low-scoring, defensive efforts, which is doing very little to inspire their wealth of fans. That being said, their squad packs a punch, with attacking players Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba creating a combined forty-six goals and thirty-two assists, but the sixteen goals from former Blue Lukaku being insufficient compared to the thirty-two league goals from Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and thirty league goals from Spurs’ Harry Kane.
