Coventry v Notts County Betting Tips & Odds

In our Coventry v Notts County betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Overview

The second instalment of the League Two play-off semi-finals sees Notts County travel to Coventry. The sides were separated by just 2 points in the final league table this season, and both sides claimed a win in the home fixture between the two this season. Jodi Jones’ hat-trick gifted the Sky Blues a 3-0 win at the Ricoh Arena, whilst Jonathan Forte’s brace guided County to  2-1 win in the reverse fixture. With the two sides ending up so close in the league table, this one is set to be a cracker.

Kevin Nolan’s side will have to be at their best to get something away from home in the first leg

Coventry Steady

Remarkably, this fixture will be Coventry’s first ever football league play-off campaign. They haven’t been promoted from any division since they won the second tier title all the way back in 1967. They were in the automatic promotion places at the turn of the year, but their up and down form in the following weeks saw them drop back down the table, content with a play-off spot in 6th place. Though, Sky Blues fans will be slightly apprehensive at the fact that only a sole League Two team finishing in 6th place has won promotion to League one in the last 10 seasons. Coventry won just one of their last four in the regular league season, including a 4-2 loss at Lincoln and a 6-2 thumping at Yeovil. Though, they did whack Cheltenham for six in their last away game and their record of 7 wins In their last 13 is sightly better than their opponents. Their shining light on the goal-scoring front this season has been Marc McNulty. The Scot has struck 23 times for the Sky Blues, the most for any Coventry player since Bobby Gould hit 23 all the way back in the 1966/67 season. He’s well priced at EVS to strike again in the first leg.

County Shaky On The Road

Notts County were chasing automatic promotion for the majority of the season, and they were right up with the pack until the last stretch, but Wycombe’s good form was enough to secure 3rd place and with it promotion. Unlike their opponents, County have history in the play-offs. This will be their fifth appearance in them, but their first since 1996. They’ve been successful in their last 3 semi-finals, and won promotion in both 90 & 91, before losing out in 96. County’s season faded without a whimper in the end, just 3 wins in their last 9, including a draw and a loss in their last 2, saw them slip from third to fifth. Their away form won’t fill their fans with much hope for the first-leg, they won just 2 of their last 11 away games this season, including a 3-1 loss at recently relegated Chesterfield. The main goal threat for the Magpies this season has come from the left-side of midfield. Jorge Grant has hit 15 for County this season, whilst their forward line, including the experienced Jon Stead, haven’t mustered double figures on their own. A positive for County is that Matt Tootle is set to play, after returning from illness at Luton. The right-back has been arguably their most consistent player this term.

Jon Stead hasn’t reached double figures this season
