Derby v Norwich Betting Tips & Odds

In our Derby v Norwich betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Gary Rowett’s Derby County welcome Norwich City to Pride Park on Saturday looking to pick up a big three points in their fight promotion. The Rams come into the weekend up in second position but there’s just six points between them and Bristol City down in sixth, which shows just how tight the second tier is at the moment. They’re currently in very good form though, with them losing just two of their previous 23 league games and their supporters will be very confident that they can claim a positive result here. The visitors make the big 350 round trip to Derby eleven places and fourteen points worse off than the Rams and but they too are in decent form. Daniel Farke’s men are fighting their way out of a slump with them winning four of their previous five in the league, however they’re still some distance away from the play-offs and need a big end to the season to break in there.

Derby looking to strengthen grip on second

It’s been a magnificent first full season in charge of Derby County for Gary Rowett and their supporters will be getting excited at the prospect of ending their ten year exile from the Premier League. The Rams were last in the top flight back 2008 when they were relegated with the lowest points total in PL history (1992-) so they’ll be desperate to return to give a good account of themselves. There’s been plenty of failed promotion bids over the last few years but this year everything seems different with Rowett at the helm. The 43 year-old has developed County into one of the most efficient and consistent sides in the division, with them inside the top six for the pretty much the entirety of the season. At the moment they’re in second position and they have fate in their own hands, but it all could all change with how tight things are.

Derby’s form over the last few months has been absolutely incredible run of form, with them losing just two of their previous 23 league games. That dates all the way back to September and highlights just how good they’ve been, so they’re bound to be full of confidence here. This is their second home game in the space of a week after defeating Brentford (3-0) last Saturday to retain second position. The Bees are a strong outfit so to win so convincingly sent out a big statement to their rivals. Strikes from Tom Huddlestone, top scorer Matej Vydra and a first Derby goal for January signing Cameron Jerome did the damage and whilst we don’t think it’ll be as plain sailing for them here, they have more than enough firepower to come out on top.

Inconsistent Norwich starting to build some positive momentum

Making the long trip to Pride Park are Daniel Farke’s Norwich City who still harbour hopes of making it up into the play-offs. The Canaries are currently eight points away from Bristol City in sixth position which is a gap that’s well within their capabilities of making up, but they need to be much more consistent during the final sixteen games of the season. That’s whats really cost them going on and challenging at the top of the table, with Farke enduring a mixed first year in English football. A rough patch of form between October-December has been the main catalyst behind them failing to go on and challenge the likes of Derby, with them losing seven of their ten league games in that period. But in the last few weeks they’ve turned a corner and given themselves hope again.

Just one defeat in their last seven league games has raised spirits around the club and their performances in those games have been excellent. The highlights were wins over Brentford (1-0), Bristol City (1-0) and most recently Middlesbrough (1-0) at Carrow Road. Getting wins against the sides in and around them have really helped their chances of getting into the top six and in their win over Boro they showed excellent grit and determination to get the three points through Tom Trybull. The Germans first half effort was enough for City to dent Middlesbrough’s promotion hopes whilst massively enhance their own and it’ll be interesting to see if they can back it up here. The challenge of beating Derby at Pride Park is something that many sides have failed to do this season and despite Norwich improving, we can’t see them getting a result here.

Norwich’s excellent home win over Middlesbrough will give them plenty of confidence coming into this one
