Exeter v Lincoln Betting Tips & Odds

In our Exeter v Lincoln betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

The second leg of the League Two playoff semi-finals sees Exeter and Lincoln face off. The first leg finished 0-0 but the game was anything but dull. Both teams had some great chances but were denied by the post, good goalkeeping or just some players fluffed their lines. Exeter know how to progress from this stage after reaching the playoff final last term – losing to Blackpool in the final. With a better squad and experience Paul Tisdale will be hoping to go all the way this time around. Lincoln in the last two years have been sensational and are now looking for back to back promotions. With Wembley success already this season, in the Checkatrade Trophy, Lincoln will be looking to use that experience here.

Lincoln City Danny Cowley

Exeter looking to make experience count

Exeter have been in this position before, they sneaked into the playoffs last year and made it all the way to the final before losing to Blackpool 2-1. This time around Paul Tisdale has a stronger squad, despite losing wonder-kid Ollie Watkins in the summer. The money from Watkins has been re-invested back in the squad and has seen Exeter break their record transfer fee to sign Jayden Stockley. Tisdale will know a lot about his squad at this stage now being the longest serving manager in England after the departure of Arsene Wenger. The manager has been at the club since 2006 and continues to perform. After narrowly missing out on automatic promotion Exeter will be hopeful of promotion this season.

Jayden Stockley is in his second spell with the club after joining permanently in the summer. He’s had a great season with the Grecians scoring 19 goals and has been a big part to Tisdale’s tactics. However, the big front man missed a huge chance to give Exeter the lead in the first leg missing the ball completely, he’ll be wanting to make things right this time around. Midfielder Ryan Harley also missed some good chances to give the Grecian the lead. Exeter have been in good form at home this season and are without a loss at St James Park in their last seven. With promising young goalkeeper Christy Pym in between the sticks Exeter look in good shape to progress here.

Lincoln looking for a second trip to Wembley

The Cowley brothers and Lincoln have had a great few years. They walked the National League last season and have looked good this season, managing to secure a playoff place on the final day of the season. Danny Cowley knows how to get his side to win games, their FA Cup run last season was testament to that and this season Lincoln won the Checkatrade Trophy. With success already this year at Wembley the players will be wanting to get back there and repeat that achievement. However, Lincoln have struggled when playing away from home, they lost 1-0 when they travelled to St James Park in the regular season and will be hoping to avoid a similar result this time around.

In Matt Rhead and Matt Green Lincoln have two very experienced strikers. Every defender in League Two will be aware of Rhead after this season if they weren’t before. The big target man is not afraid to throw his weight around and is very good in the air. Rhead went close to breaking the deadlock in the first leg, after hitting the bar with a header. With Rhead occupying the defenders Matt Green is given more space to play in. Green has a very good record in League Two and has been prolific at times. Green also went close to breaking the deadlock but was denied by a good save from Christy Pym. If Lincoln can begin to take their chances the could find themselves in Wembley for the second time this season.
