Championship GW1 TOTW

Gameweek One

The first gameweek in the Championship is officially over and what a gameweek it was.

We were treated to 31 goals across the opening 12 fixtures including some absolute belters, we're looking at you, Pablo Hernandez.

As always we've had the tough task of narrowing down every individual performance to just the best eleven, and we think we've hit the nail on the head.

Samuel Sahin-Radlinger (5.6m) - 8 Points

There were two choices we could have gone with this weekend, Birmingham's Lee Camp or Barnsley's Samuel Sahin-Radlinger. Both of which had impressive individual performances but it was the latter who stood out for us.

Barnsley faced one of the toughest opening day fixtures, against a solid Fulham side who are widely expected to be fighting for the title this season.

After making three saves in Saturday's game and keeping a clean sheet against their opposition that included the likes of Mitrovic and Cavaleiro, the Austrian shot stopper takes the number one spot in our team of the week.

Sahin-Radlinger takes the first spot in our Championship Gameweek 1 TOTW.

Kristian Pedersen (6.3m) - 14 points

The first defender in our team of the week is also the joint highest scoring player of the gameweek.

Having faced tough opposition in Brentford on Saturday, Pedersen more than handled himself by keeping a clean sheet and popping up on the score sheet with a goal of his own.

Sam Hutchinson (6.0m) - 11 Points

We couldn't pick our team of the week without including Sheffield Wednesday's Sam Hutchinson.

Despite failing to keep a clean sheet and picking up a yellow card, he still managed to grab himself a goal in Wednesday's 3-1 win against Reading.

His tally of 11 points had earned him the second highest scoring defender spot.

Steve Seddon (6.1m) - 10 Points

Steve Seddon is the second Birmingham player to feature in our team of the week.

Similar to his team-mate, Pedersen, Seddon had a very solid game and was a big contributing factor to Birmingham's clean sheet.

The Englishman also managed to chip in with an assist to take his total up to a solid 10 points.

Ben Purrington (5.7m) - 8 Points

We had two defenders to pick for our final spot, Purrington or Swansea's van der Hoorn. In the end we opted with the cheapest selection.

At a cut price 5.7m, Ben Purrington makes our TOTW picking up a tidy 8 points thanks to his goal against Blackburn.

Charlton failed to keep a clean sheet at Ewood Park but Purrington put in a solid performance as the Championship new boys got off to a winning start.

Birmingham's defence feature twice in our Team Of The Week.

Luke Thomas (5.5m) - 8 Points

There were 14 different Midfielders who all finished on 8 points in the first gameweek.

Similar to our Ben Purrington pick, we had to go down to who was the best value for money and at just 5.5m Thomas was a bargain this weekend.

Upsetting the odds and scoring the game winning goal in Barnsley's 1-0 win over Championship promotion favourites, Fulham, Thomas is a worthy contender for our midfield of the week.

Michael Jacobs (6.8m) - 11 Points

Wigan midfielder, Michael Jacobs couldn't have asked for a better opening weekend.

Scoring the equalising goal against newly relegated, Cardiff City, before then assisting the winning goal as Wigan took all 3 points.

There was no way we couldn't include him in our TOTW.

Pablo Hernandez (7.9m) - 11 Points

I don't think this will be the last time were talking about his guy in our team of the weeks this season.

Pablo Hernandez played an absolute blinder against Bristol City, scoring a incredible goal in the first half.

The Spaniard wasn't finished as he also turned provider by setting up Bamford as Leeds doubled their lead.

Tom Lawrence (7.5m) - 14 Points

The final midfielder in our team of the week also happens to be our player of the week.

Tom Lawrence had an incredible individual performance as Derby faced a tricky Huddersfield side.

Scoring twice in the space of three minutes, the Welsh international sees himself sat joint top for total points scored this week.

There were five goals and two assists scored between our team of the week midfielders this gameweek.

Ashley Fletcher (7.3m) - 10 Points

Ashley Fletcher is the first forward in our team of the week and the highest scoring one too.

Picking up 10 points in Middlesbrough's 3-3 draw with Luton on Friday night, thanks to his goal and assist.

The forward looked impressive on the ball and he certainly made a great start to the campaign, despite his side not picking up the three points,

Kyle Edwards (5.6m) - 7 Points

We found ourselves in a similar position again, in that we had eight forwards all on seven points.

As always we opted with the highest scoring, value for money player. In this case it was West Brom's Kyle Edwards.

The twenty-one year old made a steady start to the new season scoring in West Brom's 2-1 win against Nottingham Forest, and taking the final spot in our TOTW.
