Fleetwood v Bristol Rovers Betting Preview

In our Fleetwood v Bristol Rovers betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Uwe Rosler’s Fleetwood Town will be hoping to cement their place in the play-offs on Saturday, as they take on Darrell Clarke’s Bristol Rovers at Highbury Stadium. Fleetwood Town have squeezed into the top seven but are only in seventh place by a point, so they are in need of some more wins to assure their place in the table. Bristol Rovers are eighth and a win for them would see them swapping places with their opponent, making this game crucial for both sides.

Following an unimpressive nineteenth place finish last season, which saw three managers leading the side throughout the campaign, Fleetwood Town have seen a far more promising opening six months under Uwe Rossler, guiding them to a gradual move up the table. They now sit sixth after taking eleven wins and seven draws from twenty-five league games. The Trawlermen saw their last defeat in November, where Port Vale defeated them at Vale Park, inspiring the side to a run of twelve games unbeaten throughout all competitions. Their next task will be to turn more draws into wins as they have sometimes been forced to take a point when its been a perfect opportunity to push for victory. Striker David Ball and Ashley Hunter have been important in their successful six month bout of games, each scoring nine goals.

Defeating Shrewsbury Town in their first game of 2017, Uwe Rosler’s side took a break from league football to play a fixture away to Championship team Bristol City, who have struggled in recent weeks after originally looking like a likely favourite for the play-offs. Taking on Bristol Rovers’ local derby rivals, it was expected that Fleetwood would be too weak against the side, with them playing in the league above. The Robins were attacking from kick off but Uwe Rosler’s side dug their heels in and preventing any attacking opportunity. It looking like they could get some chances but it appeared to be the plan to hold their opposition to a draw with hopes of dominating them at Highbury Stadium in a replay. They managed to secure that outcome, drawing 0-0 and showing just how much they’d improved since last season’s poor resulting place.

It’s been a great first season in League One after gaining promotion from the fourth tier at the end of last season, as Bristol Rovers have moved up to eighth after taking eleven wins and seven draws from twenty-five games. As with most recently promoted clubs, their first season will most likely be spent assuring a stable position to build upon in their second year in the league above, but they’ve scrapped that idea, confidently pressing for a place in the play-offs. A single point now keeps them from a move into the top seven positions in the table, and it looks a possible target for manager Darrell Clarke. Of all performers in the side, it’s been striker Matty Taylor that has made the most impact, scoring an incredible eighteen goals, fifteen of which came in League One fixtures.

The Gas’ most recent game had them taking on sixteenth place Northampton Town, facing a side who had also found their way to League One at the end of last season after an impressive campaign in the fourth tier. It couldn’t have got off to a much better start for Darrell Clarke’s side, as Billy Bodin found space outside of the penalty area to strike the ball into the top corner of Adam Smith’s goal. Striker Ellis Harrison then made himself known to a big effect, scoring three goals in the space of seven minutes, netting with each foot as well as his head to achieve the perfect hattrick in the first half alone. The second half saw Harrison in the same level of intensity, scoring his fourth to defeat The Cobblers’ by five goals, which led to the dismissal of manager Rob Page.
