Hull City v Brentford Betting Tips & Odds

In our Hull City v Brentford betting preview we look at what could possibly be the best bets between the two sides.

Overview

Strugglers Hull welcome mid table Brentford in this Championship encounter at the KCOM, in a game that they simply have to win to start clawing themselves away from the relegation zone. The visitors will prove to be tough opposition here after taking maximum points from their last two matches against a strong Leeds side and a Birmingham outfit fighting for their lives in the bottom three.

Hull’s recent form saw the departure of manager Leonid Slutsky this week.

Adkins in the hot seat

Hull have had a hugely forgettable first half to their season, they’ve been poor defensively, shipping a monstrous 37 goals in 20 games and now find themselves balancing precariously on the edge of the relegation zone as we approach the turn of the year. The Tigers currently lie 20th in the table, but could easily end the weekend dragged further towards the bottom three with a defeat here, should either Bolton or Birmingham get anything out of their fixtures with Nottingham Forest and Fulham respectively. The hosts head into this clash with little to no momentum having won just one game in their last 8, results that have seen manager Leonid Slutsky lose his job as head coach. His replacement; former Sheffield United, Reading and Southampton boss Nigel Adkins will take charge of his first match here against Brentford and will be looking to turn things around immediately.

Adkins has proven experience at this level with the clubs listed above, so knows exactly what it takes to survive in this challenging division; he’ll know that because of how tight the table is at the moment that just a couple of wins would see Hull climb up to just below mid table, so will be solely focussed on getting 3 points here against Brentford to start building for the future. If he can get a win here, then Hull will take some good momentum into their next fixture with high fliers Cardiff next weekend. That game away to the Bluebirds will be an extremely tough one, so they’re desperately in need of a positive result here to build some confidence to take into that tie in South Wales next weekend; lose, and Hull could be in real trouble moving forward.

New manager Nigel Adkins will be hoping to turn things around immediately at the KCOM.

Bee’s are flying

The visitors head into this game in inspired form, they’re unbeaten in their last three and now find themselves just above mid table in 11th as we delve deeper into a busy December packed full of fixtures. Dean Smith’s men had a shaky start to their campaign, winning just one in their opening 10, but now seem to have found their feet, losing just one game in their last twelve so are clear favourites for the win here. Last time out, Brentford hosted West London rivals Fulham, and after initially going a goal down inside 25 minutes through Neeskens Kebano, went onto win 3-1 thanks to efforts from Sergi Canos, Romaine Sawyers and Ollie Watkins.

That victory over the Cottagers will give them great confidence in this clash against the lowly Tigers, and they’ll be looking to continue with this positive run to try and break into that illustrious top 6 in the new year. The visitors are just 8 points behind 6th placed Derby ahead of this weekends fixtures, so would close that gap with a win here, should the Rams slip up against Burton in their clash on Saturday. Brentford then host Barnsley next weekend in another game they’ll feel confident about winning considering how poorly the Tykes are performing at the moment, so two wins in these next two games would stand them in really good stead going into their play off push in the new year.

Brentford have only lost 1 game in their last 12.
