Hull City v Newcastle United Betting Preview – 29/11/16

In our Hull City v Newcastle United betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Hull City welcome high flying Newcastle United to the KCOM Stadium with a place in the EFL Cup semi-finals up for grabs. Premier League Hull City come into this clash fresh from picking up a point against West Brom on Saturday which saw their poor form continue. Tigers fans have seen their side win just twice in their last nine games in all competitions and things won’t get any easier against Newcastle. The Magpies are having fantastic season under Rafa Benitez and despite being in the Championship, they’re just three places below Hull on the footballing ladder. However they do come into this one fresh from losing their first game in twelve and Rafa will be demanding a response.

After a fantastic start to the season under Mike Phelan things have tailed off dramatically for Hull City. The Tigers won their first three games in all competitions but they’ve found life extremely difficult since. Their struggles has seen them pick up three victories in their next thirteen and it’s hard to see where the turnaround is going to come from. Saturday’s draw with West Brom was a step in the right direction however, after a poor first half they produced a decent performance to get themselves back in the game and they had chances to take the three points.

Mike Phelan will be pleased to put their league struggles aside this week and they have a great opportunity to reach the semi-finals of the cup. It’s proven to be a welcome distraction for The Tigers so far and with home advantage they will fancy their chances of going through. They secured their place in the quarter-finals by overcoming Exeter, Stoke and Bristol City – in each game they displayed good battling performances and they’ll need and more if they’re to progress here. Phelan is expected to name a strong line up with the likes of Robert Snodgrass, Abel Hernandez and Tom Huddlestone all expected to feature from the off.

Since relegation to the Championship back in May, Newcastle United have looked like a side revitalised and they’re a real force under Rafa Benitez. The Spaniard made the move to St. James’ Park back in March and his impact at the club has been quite incredible. His side have been an almost unstoppable force in the Championship this season and it would take a brave man to bet against them winning promotion back to the Premier League. The Magpies have won all but five of their games in all competitions and they’re a side full of confidence.

Newcastle’s run to the quarter-finals has been as straight forward as it gets, they’re yet to concede a goal and they’ve cruised through each round. Bentiez’s men defeated Cheltenham (2-0), Wolves (2-0) and Preston (6-0) to reach the quarters. But despite their incredible start to the season, they do come into this following a setback on Saturday. United’s nine game winning streak was ended by Blackburn after going down to a 1-0 defeat at St. James’ Park. Rafa fielded a rotated side so he’ll have his big guns available and ready at the KCOM Stadium. One man who missed out was top scorer Dwight Gayle. He’s been a revelation since his move from Crystal Palace, netting thirteen goals in as many starts and we can see him really enjoying himself here. Hull have conceded a huge 28 goals in thirteen games and he looks a banker to score (priced at 21/20).

There’s just three places separating these two sides on the football ladder and we’re expecting this to be an exciting encounter. Hull City have home advantage but the KCOM Stadium has been an unhappy hunting ground for them this season, winning just twice in seven games. Newcastle have been fantastic on their travels, winning seven of their nine games this season and we can see them adding to that total here. Rafa Benitez is building something special in the north east and we’re expecting them to progress through to the semi-finals. A Newcastle win is available at 13/10 and looks very well priced.
