LA Galaxy v Vancouver Whitecaps Betting Tips and Odds

In our LA Galaxy v Vancouver Whitecaps betting preview we look at the best possible betting tips between the two sides.

It’s a battle for a place in the play-offs in the early hours of Thursday morning, as Curt Onalfo’s eighth place LA Galaxy welcome Carl Robinson’s seventh place Vancouver Whitecaps to the StubHub Centre. LA Galaxy have been going through a dreadful run of form which has seen their chances of success go from unlikely to pretty much impossible as they gradually begin to move into the crucial MLS fixtures that they should really be taking points from. Vancouver Whitecaps are looking for stability ahead of all else and now sit a place ahead of where they resulted at the end of the last term, putting them a place above LA Galaxy with a mere issue of goal difference preventing them from pushing into the top six. These two sides last met in their second league game of the season, which saw Vancouver defeat LA Galaxy by four goals to two.

LA Galaxy have the worst home record in the Western Conference

The challenge of carrying on the work left behind by massively successful manager Bruce Arena has been a far more difficult prospect. Long-term coach Curt Onalfo has been the one to take on the job in hand, where he could only manage to win two of his opening nine MLS fixtures. There were some signs of life after that point, as they went on to take four wins and four draws from their next eight games but it appears to have been a flash in the pan, as they’ve once again slipped to some dreadful performances. Two defeats in their last two MLS fixtures as well as two further losses in US Open Cup and against Manchester United in a friendly have their situation looking more dire each and every week.

Easily the lowest point of LA Galaxy’s slump was where they hosted struggling Real Salt Lake, in a game where they should have thrashed the under developed side, but ended up losing by six goals to two, recording one of the worst results in their entire history. Falling to a double defeat against local derby rival San Jose Earthquakes also hasn’t helped morale, as it’s seen them being overthrown by a team who they used to consistently dominate. Playing without Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane this season has been damaging for LA Galaxy, as they worked as reliable leaders, with Giovani dos Santos also currently missing after playing a major part in Mexico’s attempts of success in the Confederations Cup.

Vancouver have gone unbeaten in seven of their last ten

Maintaining stability has been the first order of business for Vancouver Whitecaps, who’ve been careful in not dropping too many points in the fixtures they’ve been allocated. This season has been frighteningly competitive, which hasn’t helped LA Galaxy’s chances at remaining as consistent as they usually are, but it has progressed Vancouver to overtake their opposition side, now comfortably sat a place above by two points. Carl Robinson has obviously been sensible in how best to approach the teams they’ve played, which now pits them as being level on points with Seattle Sounders, sat mere inches away from finally making that next big step into the top six.

Carl Robinson has been in charge at BC Place since 2013, where he first started his managerial career. It’s not to say they’ve had a world-beating season which puts them in a better position than any other team in the entire MLS, but the steady improvement continues to see Vancouver work their way up the ladder. Their last five games have seen two wins and two draws, with this game looking like a big challenge but the best possible opportunity to take anything from LA Galaxy, who are usually impenetrable. Scoring goals is somewhere that they could certainly improve, as former Sporting Lisbon striker Fredy Montero is top scorer with just six goals. Versatile Uruguayan attacker follows closely behind with five goals and three assists.

Yordy Reyna scored in the eighty-eighth minute to guarantee Vancouver’s victory over New York City FC
