League One Betting Tips & Odds – 16/09/17

League One Betting Tips & Odds

In our League One betting preview we look at the best possible bets from the two selected weekend fixtures.

Walsall v Peterborough

Walsall welcome Peterborough to the Bescot Stadium looking to put their recent 5-1 hammering by Rotherham behind them.

The hosts were stuffed in their last league game

Walsall go into this game on the back of two straight league defeats, the Saddlers went down 2-1 to Bristol Rovers last Saturday and were thumped 5-1 by recently relegated Rotherham in midweek, leaving them just below mid table as we head into Autumn. An emphatic hattrick from Lee Frecklington, partnered with a brace from highly rated winger Jon Taylor ensured the points were awarded to Rotherham in Walsall’s last outing on Tuesday in a game the Saddlers looked second best in from the outset.

John Witney’s men endured a fairly underwhelming campaign last time out, they finished the season in 14th and spent a lot of it in danger of being relegated, finally finishing just 9 points away from the drop zone. It was a far cry from the season before however, where they finished third and narrowly missed out on a spot in the play off final. So fans of the West Midlanders will be hoping their team can get back to these dizzy heights this time out, but know that in doing so they need to start picking some better results on the pitch.

15th placed Walsall welcome Peterborough to the Bescot this weekend.

Peterborough have started the season in fine form

The visitors go into this clash full of confidence, they’ve started the season strongly and currently sit second in the table, trailing leaders Shrewsbury by just 3 points. Grant McCann’s men will fancy themselves as favourites for at least a spot in the play off’s and maybe even the title come the end of the season, they’ve flirted with Championship football on more than one occasion in recent years so know exactly what is required of them in order to gain entry into this prestigious division.

The Posh came out on top in their last league outing against MK Dons on Tuesday night, two goals in a rampant 5 minutes from defender Ryan Tafazolli and winger Marcus Maddison ensured victory for the home side in that fixture, which meant they were able to maintain their impressive start to the campaign. They were however beaten 3-1 at home to Bradford City last Saturday in a game Grant McCann and his men will be happy to forget, 3 first half goals from the Bantams killed off the hosts, and frustration crept in right at the death as Anthony Grant was sent off after an altercation with opposing defender Adam Chicksen.

Striker Jack Marriott is currently leading the pack for most goals scored in League One this season, he’s got 6 so far and will definitely be looking to add to this tally tomorrow afternoon, backing him to score FIRST against Walsall could be a great shout.

Peterborough United manager Grant McCann will be looking to make it two in two for the Posh.

Lincoln v Luton

Sixth placed Wigan will be looking to make it two wins from two against the boys from the west country.

Wigan have promotion firmly in their sights

League titans Wigan aren’t looking to stay in this division for too long, the former Premier League outfit had a tough time of it last season and were relegated from the Championship after a miserable campaign but will feel as though their squad is more than capable to compete for the title this time out. Paul Cook completed some great business over the summer, he’s bought in a flurry of signings that have a wealth of a experience at this level, including former Reading striker Noel Hunt and winger Gary Roberts from Portsmouth. These signings, alongside their current squad of accomplished players mean that Wigan are among the favourites for promotion this season, so will definitely be viewing this game at home to Bristol Rovers as a match they should be winning.

Noel Hunt was brought in over the summer to bolster the Latics attack.

Rovers need to bounce back after shock defeat to lowly Oldham

The visitors started their league campaign promisingly after winning 3 out of their 4 opening games, but went down 3-2 to 21st place Oldham midweek in a game they were huge favourites for, so head into this clash with the wind knocked out of their sails. They will also fancy themselves as strong candidates for the play offs after coming fairly close last time out, but know that if they are to challenge for a space in the top 6, they need to get back to winning ways sooner rather than later. Rovers front man Billy Bodin has been in fine form so far, he’s got 4 league goals already and always looks dangerous when presented with half a chance, we reckon backing him to score ANYTIME could be a fantastic bet.

Rovers front man Billy Boden will be looking to add to his goal tally in this clash.
