League Two Betting Tips & Odds

In our League Two betting preview we look at the best possible bets from the two selected weekend fixtures.

Grimsby v Crewe

Grimsby welcome Crewe to Blundell Park looking to pick up their first home win of the season.

Mariners looking to recover from three successive defeats

Russell Slade’s Grimsby have endured a difficult start to the new season and they’re in desperate need of a victory here. After picking up an excellent opening day win over Chesterfield, The Mariners have slumped to three defeats in as many games which has put some pressure on the 56 year-old. Two of those defeats have come on home soil where they’re yet to register three points so they really need to get that first victory on the board here against a side they failed to beat home or away last term. In the build up to this one Slade has been busy in the transfer market, adding a couple of new faces to his squad with the highest profile being Jamille Matt who adds some much needed firepower to their attack. Sam Jones will make a return to the starting XI here too after completing his suspension and the prospect of him, Matt & Siriki Dembele linking up in attack is a very exciting one for Mariners supporters. He will have his side fired up for this one and we’re expecting them to push Crewe all the way in what should be an entertaining game.

After a fantastic opening day victory over Chesterfield, things haven’t gone to plan for Russell Slade & Grimsby

Crewe are yet to lose a league game this season

In contrast to the hosts, Crewe Alexandra have made a fast start to the season and the only way appears to be up for David Artell’s men. This is The Railwaymen’s second season in the fourth tier after suffering relegation last May and for large periods of the 16/17 campaign it looked like they could suffer the same fate. Steve Davis guided the club to their poor start but the appointment of Artell half way through the campaign which sparked an incredible turnaround, with their previous clash against Grimsby one of the biggest turning points. They absolutely trashed Town 5-0 at Gresty Road in what proved to be one of their performances of the season and they’d love a repeat here. Since that clash they’ve added plenty of quality to their squad, with one man in particular shining. Chris Porter has taken the club by storm since arriving on a free transfer from Colchester, netting three in three and we can see him causing Grimsby’s back four all sorts of problems.

Lincoln v Luton

Two of League Two’s promotion favourites meet at Sincil Bank

Lincoln going for back-to-back home wins

It’s been a long wait for Lincoln but they finally managed to get that first win back in the Football League last weekend. Danny Cowley’s men ended a six year wait to record three points back in the league at the expense of Carlisle last weekend when goals from Alex Woodyard (2), Billy Knott and Matt Rhead sealed an impressive 4-1 victory. The Imps are regarded as one of the favourites for promotion this season despite being newcomers following promotion from the National League last term and a victory here would send out a big statement to the rest of the division that they mean business. Cowley has built a strong squad at Sincil Bank over the summer months, adding plenty of Football League experience to his side and we can see them pushing Luton all the way here as they bid for a second three points in as many games. It won’t be easy against a very good Luton side, but Lincoln are very good on home soil. They lost just twice in front of their own supporters last season and scored a huge 48 goals in the process, so it should be an entertaining game here.

Title favourites Luton looking for their first away win of the campaign

Luton come into the weekend up in fifth position and boss Nathan Jones will be fairly pleased with how his side have performed so far. No club has scored more goals than The Hatters in the fourth tier (13) with them looking extremely dangerous in all four of their league games. Town made it into the play-offs last term and the aim this time round is to very much go one better and try win promotion back into League One for the first time since 2008, and they certainly have the firepower to do so. The likes of Danny Hylton, Elliot Lee and James Collins are proven match winners at this level – with the latter making a huge impact since arriving in the summer from Crawley. He has five goals in just four league appearances for Town this season and we’re backing him to net here (17/10 at Ladbrokes). Luton were last in action on the weekend when took on title rivals Mansfield at Field Mill, where two late goals from Collins and Hylton sealed a 2-2 draw.
