Leicester City v Chelsea Betting Preview – 14/01/17

In our Leicester City v Chelsea betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

It’s the Champions versus the champions elect at the King Power Stadium as Leicester City take on Chelsea. It’s been a tough season for the hosts but they enter match day 21 in decent form – winning two of their last three in all competitions. That includes a first domestic away win of the season at Everton in the FA Cup last weekend which will give them plenty of confidence coming into this clash. Chelsea suffered a rare defeat in their last league outing at the hands of London rivals Tottenham to bring their magnificent 13 game winning streak to an abrupt halt.

This season was always going to be a difficult one for the Champions as they looked to build on their historic 15/16 campaign. Things for Claudio Ranieri’s men haven’t gone to plan to date, but it does look like they’ve started to turn a corner in recent weeks. The Foxes have lost just one of their last five in all competitions and they’re starting to regain some confidence. Their FA Cup victory over Everton last Saturday was certainly a step in the right direction and Ranieri will be hoping for more of the same. He saw his side battle back from a goal down to grind out a 2-1 win courtesy of a five minute brace from summer acquisition Ahmed Musa.

That victory was certainly a step in the right direction for The Foxes and what makes it even more impressive is that they did it without some of their key men. The likes of Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani all missed the trip to Merseyside and that victory proved they have some decent strength in depth. Leicester have really struggled to deliver any consistency this season, but they have been fairly solid at home – losing just twice. They’ve won two of their last three in front of their own supporters, which includes a thumping 4-2 win over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. And if they can repeat that performance here they’ll have a great chance of taking the three points.

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea arrive in the East Midlands at the summit of the Premier League and they enter this clash under a bit of pressure. The Blues suffered their first defeat since September in their last league outing at the hands of Tottenham and it’s seen their lead at the top cut to five points. Antonio Conte’s men have been superb this season but this clash will be a real test of their character after going down to their North London rivals. It was an out of sorts performance from Conte’s men and he’ll be demanding a big response at the King Power. Chelsea were last in action on Saturday when they welcomed League One Peterborough United to Stamford Bridge.

Conte played a rotated side but they still rolled out comfortable winners courtesy of efforts from Willian, Pedro & Michy Batshuayi. And despite fielding a much changed side, they would’ve taken a lot from that victory. They’ll be boosted here by the return of the likes of Diego Costa, Eden Hazard & Nemanja Matic to the starting XI and they’ll be eager to get revenge on the Champions after going down 2-1 here last season. This game is big at both ends of the table but it’ll be an emotional occasion for one man in particular. N’Golo Kante was one of The Foxes major driving forces last season and this will be a first return to the King Power since departing for big money in the summer.

This game last season was a big moment in the title race, with The Foxes sending out a real statement with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea. And whilst this game won’t necessarily decide the destiny of the trophy this time round, it’s still a big one. The Champions have been showing an improvement in recent weeks but this will be a real step up in class for them and whilst we can see them causing the visitors problems, a victory will be out their reach. We’re backing The Blues to bounce back from their disappointment at Tottenham to win this one – with a win & BTTS priced at 5/2.
