Liverpool v Plymouth Argyle Betting Preview – 8/1/17

In our Liverpool v Plymouth Argyle betting preview we look at the best possible betting tips between the two sides.

On Sunday afternoon this weekend in the third round of the FA Cup we see Derek Adams take his League Two Plymouth Argyle on the trip to Anfield to face Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League Liverpool. Obviously Liverpool are major favourites for this one, but they will be resting players and this is Plymouth’s biggest game for years so they will be right up for it. The FA Cup is renowned for throwing in a few major upsets so you never know.

The home side Liverpool head into the visit of Plymouth Argyle hoping that they will not be the headlines across the country by being knocked out of the cup by a team in the fourth tier of English football. The last time that the seven times winner were knocked out in their first round tie of the FA Cup was in 2011 when they were drawn away to Manchester United in 2011 who beat them 1-0 at Old Trafford. The last time that they were knocked out by a lower league team was in 2013 when Oldham Athletic beat them 3-2. The Red Men are on a impressive run which has seen them lost just once in 22 matches in all competitions, with the only team to beat them being AFC Bournemouth (4-3). They also haven’t lost a competitive game at Anfield all season so will not want to squander that record against a League Two side. It will not be a surprise to see Klopp make plenty of changes, where youngsters such as Ben Woodburn, Marko Grujic and Kevin Stewart will get a run out. But some big names will be on the bench just in case of emergency.

Their most recent match was on Monday afternoon when they made the journey up to the Stadium Of Light to face David Moyes’ Sunderland. Daniel Sturridge put the visitors ahead after 19 minutes with a header, but Jermaine Defoe pulled Sunderland level from the spot following Ragnar Klavan’s trip on Didier Ndong. Liverpool thought they’d won it when Sadio Mane put them back ahead but it was like deja vu when Defoe scored a penalty to snatch a point. Goalscorer Mane handled in his own area from a free kick to hand the draw to the Black Cats, leaving the Red Men fuming with what they feel is two points dropped.

The away side Plymouth Argyle go into the trip to Liverpool knowing that they can just play with freedom and without any pressure at all. They are not expected to get a result here but they have had a fantastic season so far in their respective league and will be backed by a mighty eight thousand travelling Pilgrims. They’ve spent the majority of the season so far at the summit of League Two and have their eyes solely set on promotion into the third tier of English football. They’ve dropped off slightly and currently find themselves sat in 2nd place in the table, one point behind Doncaster Rovers in top spot. After going through the heartbreak of losing in the play off final last time round, they will want to make no mistakes this year and claim one of the three automatic places up for grabs. The one to watch for them is certainly Irish midfielder Graham Carey, the 24 year has 9 goals already and is capable of special moments. They have just this week announced the signing of striker Nathan Blissett from National League Torquay United.

Their most recent game was on Monday when they travelled to the Hive Stadium to face Rossi Eames’ Barnet. The Bees took the lead in the 14th minute, with the diminutive Mauro Vilhete sending Nana Kyei’s corner looping in at the far post and that turned out to be enough secure a fantastic three points. The hosts had the better of the chances and were fully deserving of the win. Argyle’s Paul Garita headed over from close range but Michael Nelson and Ricardo Santos weathered the storm in the middle of the Bees’ defence.
