Luton Town v Blackpool Betting Tips and Odds

In our Luton Town v Blackpool betting preview we look at the best possible betting tips between the two sides.

On Thursday evening this week we see Gary Bowyer take his Blackpool side on the trip down to Kenilworth Road to face Nathan Jones’ Luton Town in the second leg of the League Two play-off semi-final. The first leg was on Sunday afternoon when the Hatters made the journey up to a very empty Bloomfield Road. With the situation with Blackpool owner Karl Oyston and the fans still ongoing, the supporters decided to boycott this match in protest. One man stole the headlines though, ex-Luton Town striker Mark Cullen now plies his trade for the Tangerines. He bagged himself a hat-trick against his former employers to give his side the upper hand as they go into the second leg. Luton were actually ahead at the break as two goals in two minutes from Dan Potts and Isaac Vassell turned the tie on it’s head after Cullen’s opener. However the ex-Luton striker scored twice in the second half to secure his hat-trick. So with the final scoring being 3-2 to Blackpool, they have the upper hand here on Thursday. But a one goal deficit away from home isn’t exactly a simple job to defend and Luton Town still have a huge chance of progressing into the final at Wembley Stadium where they will face either Carlisle United or Exeter City.

Will they do it?

The home side Luton Town head into the visit of Blackpool knowing that although they are one goal down on aggregate, they still have a massive chance to qualify. The Hatters narrowly missed out on a play-off place two seasons ago, but made no mistake this time round. They ended up finishing in the top qualification spot in fourth place, but were eight points behind Doncaster Rovers in the third automatic spot. Finishing in the highest play-off place is normally known as a bad omen, after they’d had the best season out of the four teams but still usually miss out on promotion.

The Hatters boast the fifth best home record in League Two for this season, they haven’t lost many games as they seem to draw an awful lot. They’ve lost the fewest matches throughout the whole division (9) this season but have also drawn the most (17) joint with two other sides. When they welcomed Blackpool to Kenilworth Road this year, the hosts won 1-0 thanks to a last minute Ollie Palmer goal. If they were to recreate that result, the tie would them be decided in extra-time and/or penalties.

A draw is enough

The away side Blackpool go into the trip to Luton knowing that all they have to do is avoid defeat and they will be through to the final at Wembley. The demise of their club has been well documented. Just six seasons ago they were playing the Premier League, but after four years in the Championship and then back to back relegations they ended up in the fourth tier of English football. This is their first campaign in League Two and it’s vital that they make an immediate return with promotion here. The one thing which the Tangerines have on their side is they are *that* side who have made a late surge into the top seven. They broke into the play-offs one the second to last day of the season, finishing just one point above Colchester United and Wycombe Wanderers.

Gary Bowyer’s side have won four out of their last five and are definitely the form team. However they don’t have the greatest record on the road this season. They have the tenth best record on the road in League Two. We think that they’ll be looking at grinding out a hard fought draw here on Thursday. They were very unfortunate not to earn a point here earlier on in the season conceding in the dying moments, so will be out for revenge by knocking Luton out.
