Luton v Grimsby Betting Preview

In our Luton v Grimsby betting preview we look at the best possible bets from the two selected weekend fixtures.

Nathan Jones’ high-flying Luton Town welcome Grimsby Town to Kenilworth Road on Saturday looking to extend their lead at the summit of League Two. The Hatters come into the weekend two points clear of second placed Notts County in what’s looking like an exciting title race between the two clubs. They’re in fine form at the moment having gone six games unbeaten and they’ll fancy their chances of claiming another positive result here. The visitors come in the form of Russell Slade’s Grimsby who’ve really improved over the last few weeks. The Mariners are now unbeaten in four which includes three wins and a draw with second placed County last weekend – proving that they can mix it with the big boys.

In-form Hatters setting the pace

It’s been a magnificent 17/18 to date for Luton Town and their boss Nathan Jones, with the Hatters continuing to improve game-on-game. It’s their fourth year in the fourth tier and their owners clearly have big ambitions, shown by the finances they’ve pumped into the club over the last few seasons. They’ve given Nathan Jones the foundations to build something special and it looks like that’s starting to come into fruition, with them really impressing us so far. After 22 games they’re top of the division and they know just a single point will guarantee that they’re top of the tree on Christmas, which will give them a huge confidence boost.

This game looks like a potentially tricky one on paper for the Hatters but their form at home this season has been sensational. They’ve won eight of their eleven games which includes them hitting the back of the net on no fewer than 35 occasions – the highest in the division by some distance. They also boast two of League Two’s most clinical frontmen in Danny Hylton & James Collins who’re capable of being match winners in any game so they will be a real handful for the Mariners on Saturday. Hylton is the leagues top scorer with 13 this season and he was on the scoresheet last weekend in their 2-0 victory over Forest Green, so he’s certainly the danger man.

Two defeats in thirteen for in-form Mariners

Making the daunting trip to Bedfordshire are Russell Slade’s Grimsby Town who’ve recovered excellently from a slow start to the campaign to fire themselves into play-off contention. The in-form Mariners come into the weekend in eleventh position with them just two points away from the top seven. They’re still very much a work-in-progress under the veteran manager but he will be very encouraged by what he’s seen over the last few weeks, with them going four games unbeaten. That run includes three victories consecutive victories which came a halt last weekend when they took on another in-form side in Kevin Nolan’s Notts County at Meadow Lane.

It was always going to be tough game for the Mariners and they went into it as huge outsiders like they are here, but they produced a magnificent performance to push the hosts all the way. Both sides huffed and puffed but ultimately it ended in a goalless draw, which would’ve delighted the travelling contingent of 1500 Grimsby fans and Slade. Town created several good opportunities and really frustrated the hosts, with them failing to register a single shot on target. The same and more is needed here against one of the countries most prolific attacks but last week would’ve done wonders for their confidence. The way Grimsby set up really suits them away from home with their pace on the break a real threat, shown by only three sides picking up more points than them on the road this season. We can see them pushing Luton here, but the hosts should have enough to come through it with the three points.
