Mansfield Town v Crewe Alexandra Betting Preview – 07/01/17

In our Mansfield Town v Crewe Alexandra betting preview we look at the best possible betting tips between the two sides.

Steve Evans will hope to continue Mansfield Town’s positive start to the season, as they host Steve Davis’ struggling Crewe Alexandra at Field Mill. Mansfield Town are sixteenth, gradually building under Steve Evans since he took over in November, currently unbeaten in six of his nine games in charge. Crewe Alexandra remain with Steve Davis in charge but have had a disappointing opening five months after dropping down from League One at the end of last season. They sit a place below at seventeenth.

The season began for Mansfield Town with Adam Murray at the helm but he stepped down from the role in November, which saw former Leeds United manager Steve Evans come in just two days later. It was a drop down two divisions, but he was determined that this was the next challenge he wanted, with hopes of saving them from an almost certain relegation. He’s dragged The Stags out of the dropzone, now sat sixteenth, but it’s hard to see if his methods are working, as they’ve spent six out of nine games unbeaten but failed to win in some fixtures that would have been perfect opportunities to capitalise. Matt Green has helped the new manager’s attempts to turn their fortunes around, scoring a crucial eleven goals over all competitions.

Things have looked mostly positive over the last few weeks, defeating third place Carlisle United in order to continue in the Checkatrade Trophy, now enjoying two games unbeaten, with the first being a draw with top place Doncaster Rovers at the end of December. The new year has had them up against Blackpool, who are currently tenth in the table and have looked far stronger this season after Gary Bowyer took charge in the summer. The Stags went ahead after twenty-nine minutes, where a misplaced pass in Blackpool’s midfield made way for a run from Matt Green, who went on to have a shot at Sam Slocombe’s goal, deflected in after it hit the leg of Danny Pugh. Mansfield then were successful in keeping The Seasiders from scoring, resulting in a 1-0 for Steve Evans’ side.

After finishing bottom of League One last season by a distinct six points, Crewe Alexandra have failed to make a worthy claim of a return back to the league above, sat at seventeenth with six wins and ten draws from twenty-four games. Lucky the division is still very tight, as it means they can focus on ten point gap between them and the play-offs, rather than speculating on the even small seven points that prevent them from slipping them into the dropzone. They haven’t seen a win in their last six games, which spans back to the penultimate game of November where they narrowly defeated Morecambe at home. Steve Davis’ side have the joint-second least goals in all of League Two, with the most netted attempts coming from veteran striker Ryan Lowe, who has eight to his name at the ripe old age of thirty-eight.

It was distressing to fans of The Alex that they had failed to win a single game throughout December, taking a measly point from four games. November wasn’t much better either, as they won and drew a game each, losing the remaining two. Steve Davis’ side went into 2017 with high hopes they could finally get a win, transforming their form, and pushing them into a more exciting position in the table in the process. Both sides attacked from start to finish but were constantly cancelled out by goalkeepers Barry Roche and Ben Garratt between the sticks. It resulted at 0-0 and was yet another disappointing display from The Alex, with a big change needed if they want to assure safety in the division, as the prospect of back-to-back relegations isn’t completely out of the question.
