Middlesbrough v Manchester United

Middlesbrough v Manchester United Betting Preview

In our Middlesbrough v Manchester United betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Second from bottom Middlesbrough welcome Manchester United to the Riverside looking to pick up a first league win since mid-December. Boro are on the longest winless streak of any side in the top flight which saw manager Aitor Karanka given his marching orders in midweek. The Spaniard has struggled to get his side going in the Premier League and a reported bust-up with Stewart Downing last week left the Boro board with no choice. The visitors come into this clash on a seventeen game unbeaten run in the league and Jose Mourinho will be extremely confident that his side can pick up three points here. But it won’t be easy for them, they’re missing talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic and it’s going to be interesting to see where the goals will come from.

Anxious times ahead for Middlesbrough fans

This season was always going to be a tough one for Middlesbrough after ending their eight year exile in the Championship. Boro came up with high hopes but the Premier League is an unforgiving division – something that they’ve discovered first hand. Their supporters have seen their side win just four league games this season which is the lowest in the top flight and that tells it’s own story. Now with Karanka out the door, caretaker boss Steve Agnew is left to pick up the pieces and he has some job on his hands. They’re without a league win for three months and they need to start picking up results sooner rather than later or they’ll be left behind.

They’ve lost six of their last ten which includes their previous two outings against Crystal Palace (1-0) & Stoke (2-0). They’ve always been built on a fairly strong backline and they are difficult to beat, but they’re incredibly uninspiring in attack. They’ve failed to score in six of their previous eight league games and their lack of quality in the striking department is the reason why they find themselves in their current predicament. So a clash against Manchester United will be the last thing that they want. Their opponents have conceded just 22 goals this season – three more than Middlesbrough have scored! But now with a new man at the helm for the time being, it will be interesting to see if they line up and approach the game differently.

Middlesbrough’s hopes of remaining in the top flight are looking bleak

The race for the top four is hotting up

Jose Mourinho’s men make the trip to Teeside in desperate need of a victory with the race for the top four hotting up. Their destiny is currently out of their hands with them six points behind Liverpool but they’ll be confident that they can make up the difference. They’re one of the most difficult sides to beat in the Premier League and they’ll be extremely difficult opponents for Middlesbrough. They’ve kept three clean sheets in their last four PL games on the road which isn’t good news for the hosts who’re really struggling to do anything in front of goal this season. An away clean sheet looks like a solid option for this clash and that’s well priced at 1/1 with bet365.

But the hosts could have goalscoring problems of their own here as their without their main man in Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swede is serving the second part of his three game ban for an altercation with Tyrone Mings in his sides 1-1 draw with Bournemouth in their previous league game. So the responsibility of leading the United attack is likely to fall on the shoulders of England forward Marcus Rashford, who we’re expecting to do some damage here. The 19 year-old has pace to burn and we can see him giving this Boro back four nightmares. We’re expecting his side to come through this one but it won’t be easy, the hosts are scrapping for their lives and they’ll be well up for it. A Manchester United win with under 2.5 goals is priced at 9/4 with SkyBet which looks like a good bet.
