Napoli v Lazio Betting Tips & Odds

In our Napoli v Lazio betting preview we look at the best possible betting tips between the two sides.

Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli look to maintain their lead at the top of the Serie A table, as they welcome Simone Inzaghi’s Lazio to the Stadio San Paolo. Napoli continue on the long road to league success, still entertaining a lead over usual top place finishers Juventus, and certain to show their worth right up until the final day. There’s a long way to go but they’ve already displayed just how ruthless they can be when it matters most. Lazio have shown signs of the massively enticing attacking outfit the were in the previous campaign but aren’t currently enjoying the strongest form, as it’s had them falling to a shock defeat in midweek. They’re capable of a better showing but their opposition are far from easy to face. These sides last met in September, where Napoli won by four goals to one.

Maurizio Sarri’s men retain a one point lead over second place Juve

When the season first kicked off, there were a few sides who looked genuinely capable of beating Juventus to the title, which would be completely contradictory of their usual monopoly over the Italian top tier. Both Napoli and Inter Milan have thrown their hat into the ring but with Luciano Spalletti’s Internazionale very much tailing off in past games, Napoli stand as the only side capable of beating Juventus to the top spot, and it’s clear to see that Maurizio Sarri and co have their eyes focused on doing exactly that. Going unbeaten in their first fourteen was a sign of things to come, especially as they won in twelve of those games, drawing just twice, but keeping that sort of intensity is another challenge entirely.

Unsurprisingly, it was Massimiliano Allegri’s men who stopped Napoli in their tracks, defeating them for the first time all season, scoring early on before grinding out a 1-0 win at the Stadio San Paolo. Napoli dusted themselves off and got back to what they do best though, going unbeaten in the next eight league games to keep contention over a potential title win. There’s been some stumbling points, mostly happening outside of league fixtures, but Juventus’ return to better form has only gone so far, as Napoli remain one point ahead. Dries Mertens is showing more of the form we saw last season, netting fourteen league goals, with help from Lorenzo Insigne, Jose Callejon and Marek Hamsik, who’ve added a further sixteen goals and eleven assists combined.

Lazio are without a win in their last three and need to get back on track

There’s lots of positive repercussions on this Lazio side from the previous season, where Simone Inzaghi was able to take a Europa League spot in his first full term as manager, but it’s hard to live up to the now sky-high expectations from both fans and critics. They’ve been enjoying their time in Europe, also going through more than enough periods of success back in the Serie A, but the odd slip-up has peppered their campaign in a bad way. The Eagles currently find themselves in their worst run of form, losing to AC Milan in the league, only able to achieve a goalless draw with AC Milan in the Coppa Italia just three days later, and falling to a shock 2-1 defeat in midweek against Genoa.

Comparisons are fair to make between Napoli and Lazio, as both focus primarily on their ability to attack in an entertaining fashion, which has gained more fans from throughout the world over the last couple of seasons. Striker Ciro Immobile leads the line and is a clear fan favourite, netting twenty league goals to sit as favourite for this season’s Golden Boot, who is likely to have a high tally if it weren’t the minor knocks he’s picked up along the way. There’s plenty of other contributors in this side but it’s former Liverpool outcast Luis Alberto and rising star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic who’ve been the most vital, scoring fourteen goals and contributing nine assists between them. Lazio sit at third in the table with a massive thirteen gap between them and second place Juventus, but hopes of at very least keeping their lead ahead of Inter Milan, Roma and odds-defying Atalanta.
