Napoli v Roma Betting Tips & Odds

In our Napoli v Roma betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Mauricio Sarri’s Napoli welcome Roma to the Stadio San Paolo on Saturday for a huge game in Serie A’s late kick-off. The hosts come into it as league leaders and they’re in absolutely lethal form at the moment, winning their last ten games domestically. They’re playing some unbelievable football and you’d expect them to be running away with the league after picking up 30 points from a possible 30, but second placed Juventus are just four behind them with a game in hand so they can’t afford any slip ups here. The visitors make the trip south a huge nineteen points behind their opponents and they’re in need of a big end to the campaign if they’re to achieve their objectives. Eusebio Di Francesco’s men are currently in fifth position and in poor form having won just three of their previous ten, so a Champions League spot looks in real jeopardy.

Ten wins from ten for Sarri’s all-conquering Napoli

Napoli fans have been starved of success over the last twenty or so years, with them seeing the likes of Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus all go on dominate domestically. The Light Blues have been one of the more inconsistent sides, showing flashes of what they’re capable but they’re just unable to do it on a regular enough basis which has held them back – but this year looks very different. Under the guidance of the enigmatic, old school head coach Maurizio Sarri they are playing a bamboozling brand of attacking football which has seen them take Serie A by the scruff of the neck and threaten to end Juventus’ dominance of Italian football. The Old Lady have won six consecutive league titles and Sarri is desperate to stop them making it a record seven, and so far they look very capable of doing just that.

Napoli have spent the most time of any side in Serie A at the top of the division and they’re in outrageous form at the moment, winning their last ten games in the league. They’ve been beaten just once all season in Serie A, have the best defence (tied with Juventus) and have scored a huge 60 goals – proving that they’re much more than just an attacking force. Sarri is building something special at the Stadio San Paolo and with them currently out of every other competition, they can put all their energy & focus into winning Serie A. They come into the weekend fresh from picking up a hugely impressive three points at Cagliari last weekend, routing them 5-0. There were five different scorers for Napoli at the Venue Sardegna Arena which shows just how many attacking threats they have and they will be so dangerous here against a struggling Roma side.

Napoli came out on top in the previous Serie A meeting between these two sides, with a Lorenzo Insigne goal doing the damage at the Stadio Olimpico

Inconsistent Roma in desperate need of three points

Making the daunting trip to the Stadio San Paolo are Eusebio Di Francesco’s Roma who’re still suffering a hangover from a dreadful festive and new year period. A drop in performance level has seen them win just three of their last ten in Serie A, ending their hopes of challenging for the title and more worryingly putting their hopes of getting Champions League football next season in serious doubt. As it stands they’re currently just a point away from Inter in fourth but with some difficult fixtures to come over the next few weeks they really need to get out of this bad run they currently find themselves on. This is Di Francesco’s first season in charge in the capital and he finds himself under a fair bit of pressure at the moment, so it’ll be interesting to see if he can turn things around and get Roma back on track.

Like their opponents they were also in league action on the weekend when they took on Gennaro Gattuso’s resurgent AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico. It looked a very difficult game on paper for Roma with the visitors in fine form and they once again struggled to make the most of their dominance, with them missing a hatful of opportunities on their way to losing 2-0. That could prove to be a very costly defeat come the end of the season and they’re going to need to improve all over the pitch ahead of this encounter. Napoli score lots of goals but they’re also solid at the back, so the likes of Edin Dzeko, Cengiz Under and Diego Perotti are going to have to be clinical in front of goal if they’re to get anything. They certainly have the ability to come here and cause an upset but with how the hosts have been performing of late we can’t see anything but a victory for Napoli, with them best priced at 11/5 with Ladbrokes to win & BTTS which look like good odds.

Edin Dzeko

Roma have struggled of late but they still have more than enough quality to come here and do a job, with Edin Dzeko (centre) their biggest threat
