New England v New York Red Bulls Betting Tips and Odds

In our New England v New York Red Bulls betting preview we look at the best possible betting tips between the two sides.

In the early hours of Friday morning this week in the US Open Cup Quarter-Final we see Jesse Marsch take his New England Revolution side on the trip to the Gillette Stadium to face Jay Heaps’ New England Revolution. These two sides both ply their trade in the Eastern Conference of the MLS. They are separated by three places and six points, but that goes out of the window in the cup with both of them desperate for a place in the semi-finals.

This will actually be be the fourth meeting of these two sides already this season. The first was in a friendly but they have since met twice in the MLS. New York Red Bulls are the ones with the bragging rights having beat them both home and away in the competitive fixtures. The most recent meeting was just a week ago at the Gillette Stadium. Red Bulls twice came from behind to come away with a 3-2 win in the last minute of the game. The winner came when Gonzalo Veron was sent through on goal and he finished smartly across the keeper into the far post.

Payback time!

The home side New England head into the visit of New York Red Bulls knowing that it’s vital they get some revenge over their opponents who have already beaten them home and away this season. It would rub it in even more if they were to knock them out of the cup. They have some unfinished business in this competition also, last year they made it to the final but were beaten 4-2 by FC Dallas. So they’ll be hoping to go one better this time round. In the Eastern Conference they aren’t enjoying a good season. They currently find themselves sat second bottom of the table, just two points above DC United who are at the foot of the table in eleventh place. New England are in a terrible run of form at the minute, they have lost four out of their last five and will want to put an and to that run with a win here.

Looking at their home record they will definitely fancy their chances. They’ve lost just three times in their last fifteen fixtures at the Gillette Stadium in all competitions. The worry is that two of those defeats have come in their last three. Making your home ground into a fortress is key to any teams success so they’ll be desperate to get back to winning ways here.

Three from three on the road?

The away side New York Red Bulls go into the trip to New England knowing all they have to do is claim their third win over their opponents for the season and they will be one step closer to the final. In this competition last year they only managed to reach the round of 16 which isn’t very impressive as they only had to win once to reach it. This time though they’ve already gone one further and will have their eyes on the prize. Looking at the draw, their is another quarter-final which involves two teams from the lower division. Therefore a win here could see them drawn agains one of them which means a ticket to the final. In the Eastern Conference they haven’t had the greatest of starts. They currently find themselves sat just outside the top six in the seventh place, two points behind Columbus Crew. They have however got two matches in hand over the teams above them so have a good chance of jumping up a few places.

After losing five away fixtures on the bounce it looked like New York Red Bulls were going to struggle away from home all season. However recently it looks like they may well have turned it around. They’ve now won their last two on the road, the first being a 2-0 victory against Philadelphia Union and then the second against their opponents here but in the MLS. So they’ll be looking to make it three from three on their travels.

BWP will be their main threat
