Next Cardiff City Manager Odds

Cardiff City are on the lookout for a new manager following the sacking of Steve Morison after their defeat at managerless Huddersfield Town on the weekend.

Morison has been in charge at the Bluebirds since October 2021 after the dismissal of Mick McCarthy and oversaw a major squad rebuild at the Cardiff City Stadium, signing 17 new players in the summer. But, following just 11 points from their opening 10 league games, the 39-year-old was sacked.

The former Wales international leaves the Welsh capital with a win percentage of 36.36% having won 16 and drawn eight of his 44 matches at the helm.

Mark Hudson Odds: 7/4

Former Cardiff captain Mark Hudson is the bookmakers’ favourite to be the Bluebirds' next manager.

The 40-year-old has been placed as caretaker manager of the club he made 144 league appearances for between 2009 and 2014. Hudson notably won two promotions from the Championship as a player, doing so in 2012/13 with Cardiff and in 2017 whilst playing for Huddersfield Town.

Hudson will be looking to improve on his caretaker manager record, as he managed the Terriers four times, losing all four matches, seeing his side score twice whilst conceding nine times.

Hudson is priced at 7/4 to become Cardiff’s next manager after Morison - click on the link to claim this bet in your bet slip!

Nathan Jones Odds: 7/1

Luton Town manager Nathan Jones has also been rumoured to be in the frame for the managerial vacancy at Cardiff City.

Jones does have a history with the Bluebirds, having played for their youth team between 1990 and 1991, before being released by his local club to join Welsh outfit, Maesteg Park.

As far as his managerial career goes, the majority of Jones’ success has been with Luton Town, having earned promotion from League Two with the Hatters in 2016/17 via a second-place finish. He also laid down the foundations for Luton in 2018/19, leaving them second in League One in January before taking the Stoke City job.

Since returning to Luton after winning just six games in 38 at Stoke, Jones has turned the club’s Championship fortunes on their head, having helped them survive from what looked like an impossible situation towards the end of 2019/20 season, before overseeing their qualification for the play-offs last season.

Could Jones make a return to Cardiff to replace Morison? Jones is priced at 7/1 to take the job at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Sol Bamba Odds: 7/1

Sol Bamba has also made this list, having made 112 league appearances for Cardiff between 2016 and 2021, where he famously helped them to promotion back to the Premier League via a second-place finish during the 2017/18 season under the guidance of Neil Warnock.

Last season, Bamba took up a player-coach role at Middlesbrough and will have gained some good experiences, having been taught by Warnock in that role, before Chris Wilder stepped in at the Riverside after the former’s dismissal.

Bamba is priced at 7/1 to step up as Cardiff City’s next manager.

Lee Bowyer Odds: 12/1

Former Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has also been linked with the vacancy at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Bowyer has plenty of managerial experience, as the 45-year-old managed Charlton between March 2018 and 2021, winning 64 and drawing 37 of his matches in charge at the Addicks, leading them to promotion to the Championship back in 2018/18 via the play-offs.

Following his spell at Charlton, Bowyer decided to return to Birmingham in March 2021, where he had a less successful spell with the then cash-strapped club. Bowyer oversaw just 17 wins in 59 matches until the end of his reign in July last year.

Cardiff are priced at 12/1 to appoint Bowyer as manager.

Craig Bellamy Odds: 12/1

The final manager on this list is Burnley’s assistant manager, Craig Bellamy.

Like some of the other candidates on this list, Bellamy is also an ex-Cardiff player, having played for his hometown club between 2012 and 2014. Bellamy was part of the Bluebirds side that won promotion to the Premier League by winning the Championship in 2012/13.

As well as his current role, assisting former Manchester City teammate Vincent Kompany at Burnley, he also worked with the Belgian at Anderlecht as an Under 21s manager from 2019 to 2021.

Bellamy is priced at 12/1 to return to Cardiff as manager.
