Northampton Town v Bristol Rovers Betting Tips & Odds

In our Northampton Town v Bristol Rovers betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Overview

After a very good start by Hasselbaink Northampton have only taken 1 point from the last 4 games. Hasselbaink started with two wins and a draw in his first three games this showed a real turn around in results from the start of the season where it had been a massive disappointment. Northamptons new gaffer has said that it will take time for his team to really learn about how to turn the small margins their way, using experience and intelligence. Two wins in the last five games for Bristol Rovers have cemented a indifferent start to the season, a big win away at Fulham in the league cup and running Wolves all the way to ET showed what they can do. Unfortunately Bristol’s away form has been terrible and they have only picked up one win on the road this season, Bristol haven’t drawn a match this season yet either.

Hasslebaink’s reign hasn’t gone as smooth as he would of liked

Jimmy had his fair share of success as a player and he is looking to emulate this in his managerial career, he certainly hasn’t had the best start to his managerial career but he has shown that he’s not afraid to drop down the leagues to find a job. Hasselbainks start at Sixfields started off really well winning two of his first three games, an impressive start after Northampton had lost their first four games.  Hasselbaink has said after such an impressive start his team needs to learn to grind results out from games that can be won or lost because of a single goal. Northamptons form of late has not been to the liking of the new gaffer and he would like it to pick up sooner rather than later, a home fixture against Bristol Rovers a team who are poor away from home could be the perfect opposition for the Cobblers.

Northampton won both of their games under Hasselbaink at Sixfields, so their home form under the new manager is a lot better then their away form although they did pick up a very good point against MK dons. Northampton will definitely have the home advantage this weekend and this could really inspire them to gain three points in front of their home fans. Northampton really pushed Rotherham to their limit in the Cobblers previous game, the Millers have scored an abundance of goals this term and Northampton kept them at bay and had chances of their own. Confidence is certainly starting to peak through in the Cobblers performances, I would go for a home win this weekend and this could really kick on Northamptons season and push them up the table.

Can Bristol Rovers turn their away form around?

Bristol Rovers away form has been terrible this season, only gaining three points at Bury. A game they nearly threw away after being 0-3 up and conceded two very late goals. Darrel Clarke will be looking for improvements on their away form especially as their home form has been very good this season, winning two of their last three games they will be going into the match in high spirits you would of thought. Although having not drawn a game all season you would of thought that Clarke will be looking to stopping the rot away from home and at least get a point on the road at Sixfields stadium.

Bristol Rovers have Billy Bodin who has scored six goals in the league this year, not a bad start for the 25 year old and he will be looking to score against his old team on Saturday. Bodin will be Rovers main threat on Saturday and if he has a good game then they will at least have a chance to gain points away from home since their win against Bury in August. Bristol Rovers have only scored four goals away from home this year and three of those were in one game against Bury, this will be an extremely tough game for Bristol even though they have been scoring for fun at home. Northampton have not been doing too well of late but this game could really get their season back on the road. I think that Bodin will be on the scoresheet if Bristol manage to bag but I think that Northampton will be comfortable winners, Alex Revell has only scored one goal this season but his performances have been improving game on game and I can see his form turning around and scoring on Saturday.

Odds

Northampton haven’t had the best starts of the season and even though they had a new manager to really turn their season around it hasn’t happened just yet. I can see them securing at least a point against Bristol who have an awful record away from home. Revell and Bodin to score will be my predictions for both teams, both have looked in good form of late but Bodin has the goals behind him to show his good form, Revell only has performances. Northamptons defence looks quite solid at the moment and Bristol Rovers don’t score a lot away from home so a win to nil could be a good option. Northampton are 2/1 to win at home with Betfair and Bristol Rovers are 6/4 to win away from home, the draw is 13/5 with 188Bet.
