Nottingham Forest v Derby Betting Tips & Odds

The Championship’s Sunday afternoon kick-off features a Midlands-derby, as Gary Rowett’s Derby side make the short trip to face Aitor Karanka’s Notts Forest outfit. The fixture has plenty of history, from the brilliance of Clough, to the less desirable fiesta side of the derby. From last-minute disallowed goals in 2008, to an off-field brawl in 2010, this fixture certainly has a lot to live up to. Derby have dominated the rivalry in recent years, having won 3 of the last 4 meetings between the two sides.

Inconsistent Forest Looking To Continue Unbeaten Streak

Aitor Karanka’s side have been woefully inconsistent this season, and as a result sit 15th in the Championship table. However they seem to have turned a corner, as they are now looking to extend their unbeaten run to 6 games. The loan signing of Lee Tomlin has proved to be a masterstroke from the Nottingham club. Whilst a controversial figure who splits opinion with his attitude, there can be no doubts about Tomlin’s on-field prowess. The attacking midfielder has been in his element at the City Ground, bagging four goals since his loan move from Cardiff, where he had fallen out of favour, was confirmed on January deadline day. The 29-year-old is well-liked by his new club’s fans, and is well priced at 3/1 to score anytime. Despite being unbeaten in five games, recent weeks have shown Forest’s inconsistency. Fowling up 5-2 and 2-1 wins over QPR and Birmingham respectively, they were held 0-0 by Norwich in their next outing. Most worrying for Forest however, will be their home form. After winning 6 of their first 9 home outings this season, Forest City Ground form has been abysmal since late November. Just 2 home wins in 8 games will make the Forest faithful nervous on derby day.

Promotion Hunting Derby Looking To Continue Midlands-Derby Streak

Derby fans will be slightly more confident than their hosts coming into this one, after winning 3 of the last 4 midland-derby clashes. Gary Rowett’s side sit 5th in the table, and are right in the play-off mix, and still harbour ambitions of a return to the Premier League. The travelling Rams fans will be confident of their sides chances, as Derby posses the third best away record in the league. However, they’ve won just once on the road in the calendar year, having drawn 3 away games in 2018. Former England shot-stopper Scott Carson has been in the form of his life between the sticks for Rowett’s team this season, culminating in him winning the December Player of the Month award, a very rare feat for a goalkeeper! In midfield sits young talent Tom Lawrence, a creative attacking-midfielder who will trouble the Forest defence with his quick feet and ability to unlock a defence. The Welshman was the shining light in a poor Ipswich side last season, winning their player-of-the-year gong under Mick McCarthy. He will be supplying the Championship’s joint leading scorer in Matej Vydra, who has struck 17 times for Derby this season.
