Notts County v Wycombe Betting Tips & Odds

In our Notts County v Wycombe betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

This is a huge weekend in League Two and there aren’t many bigger games on Friday than the one at Meadow Lane between Notts County and Wycombe Wanderers. These two sides come into the weekend separated by just one place and four points, so the winner could strike a huge mental blow in the race for promotion. The hosts know that they can’t afford to lose this one and their form makes pretty worrying reading at the moment, with them winning just one of their last four in the league. Wycombe on the other hand have won two of their last three and they could potentially close the gap on the top two to just a point should results go their way.

County’s form dropping off just at the wrong time

Regardless of what happens this season, it’s pretty fair to say that its been a successful one for Notts County. It’s the Magpies’ second season in the fourth tier following relegation back in 2016 and their supporters had to make do with a disappointing sixteenth placed finish. It looked like they could’ve been dragged into a relegation battle until the appointment of Kevin Nolan two thirds of the way through the campaign saved them and his impact has been huge. The former Bolton & West Ham man has built a hard working, organised and determined unit at Meadow Lane who’ve transformed into promotion contenders. County have spent pretty much the entirety of the season in and around the top three and they have big aspirations for the remaining weeks, so it’s essential that they pick up maximum points here.

As it stands they’re four points behind their opponents here and a defeat would be catastrophic for their hopes of winning automatic promotion, with just eighteen points left to play for after this weekend. They were well in the hunt until a bad run over the last few weeks which has seen them win just one of their last four, which includes a disappointing defeat to relegation threatened Chesterfield on the weekend. It was a game that the Magpies were expected to come out on top in but instead they delivered one of their most lacklustre performances of the campaign, going down to a 3-1 defeat at the Proact Stadium. It was a tough result for Nolan and the travelling County fans to take and a huge improvement is needed here if they’re to beat a Wycombe side who’re full of confidence at the moment.

Six wins from seven on the road for Wycombe

Making the trip north to Nottingham are Gareth Ainsworth’s Wycombe who’re enjoying a magnificent 17/18. The Chairboys play an exciting, entertaining brand of attacking football under the 44 year-old and they’re getting the results to go to boot, with them looking more than capable of achieving automatic promotion. A win here could potentially put them seven points clear of the chasing pack which would be a big gap at this stage of the campaign and put them firmly in the driving seat when it comes to getting back into League One – a division that they’ve been out of for six years. Like County they’ve been a through blips over the course of their 39 games but they’ve really come alive since the turn of the year, losing just two of their fourteen games in 2018. So with that incredible run of form behind them they’ll be very confident that they have the personnel to get the job done here.

Their form in 2018 has been excellent but their performances on the road have been like it all season. Wycombe’s total of 35 points picked up on their travels is the highest in the division and their counter attacking game is so suited to playing away from Adams Park. They’ve won six of their last seven away so Notts County & Nolan will be weary of the threat that they pose coming into this one. But despite all the positives surrounding Wanderers at the moment they do come into this one following a bit of disappointment on the weekend after being held by Neil Aspin’s struggling Port Vale. The Chairboys huffed & puffed but they couldn’t find the breakthrough against the Valiants (winless in fourteen) so Ainsworth will be demanding a response here no doubt.
