This Years Contenders

The Premier League is regarded as the best league in the world and last season cemented that. We saw one of the most memorable campaigns in recent memory as Chelsea went on to secure the title. Antonio Conte made his PL debut, transforming a Chelsea side that slumped to a tenth placed finish the previous season. But the Italian somehow galvanised the club to finish ahead of the likes of Manchester City & Tottenham to lift a fifth EPL.

The Blues provided us with plenty of memorable moments over the course of the campaign but it didn’t just start and end with them. Tottenham finished as runners-up but they pushed Chelsea all the way in an exciting title race. The likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane all took their game to the next level spearheading a lethal Spurs side and they’ll be one of the teams to watch this season – playing at their temporary new home at Wembley.

Big Spending Rivals

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were the favourites for the title last term and it’s the same again after spending some huge sums of money. Ederson and Monaco star Bernardo Silva have already joined this summer to bolster an extremely expensive & talented squad. Their spending has been matched across the city by Manchester United too. With Jose Mourinho’s men looking to build on a disappointing league campaign where they finished sixth. They still won two trophies though which secured Champions League qualification but they need to improve.

Big money has been spent throughout the division, with several clubs breaking their transfer records. Arsenal made a huge signing in prolific Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette who joined for a fee that could rise up to £52m. Everton signed Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for a potential £30m. Joining him are the likes of Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez who’ve really excited the Toffees supporters. Their Merseyside Rivals have also been busy splashing almost £35 million on Mohamed Salah. He had a fantastic season in Serie A with Roma and he has unfinished business in the Premier League.

The Rest of the Field

What makes the EPL so attractive to its global audience is its ability to come up with the unexpected. So look out for clubs such as Stoke, Crystal Palace, West Ham etc. who have some excellent players on their books and there’ll be some very good value in betting on them.

The likes of Southampton and Leicester will be really looking to push on and cement themselves in the top half. They’ve both been busy in the transfer market and their supporters will be confident that they can really push on this season.

Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Hull City were the unfortunate sides to drop out the division last season and they’ve been replaced by Newcastle, Brighton & Huddersfield Town. Newcastle return after a one-year absence but the sides who’ve joined them are making their debut in the top flight and it promises to be a rollercoaster ride for everyone involved with their clubs. The Magpies are led by Rafa Benitez and they’re the favourites to retain their Premier League status of all the three newly promoted sides.

But Brighton aren’t to be written off under Chris Hughton. He’s one of the most experienced managers in the Football League and he’ll have The Seagulls very well organised as they bid to stay up. But the real shock of last season was the promotion of Huddersfield. It’s reported that they had the same budget as bottom of the Championship Rotherham United. But David Wagner somehow managed to steer them to an incredible play-off victory and the German will be eager to write another chapter in their history and keep them up – which would be one of the biggest shocks ever.
