Preston v Brighton Betting Preview – 14/1/17

In our Preston North End v Brighton & Hove Albion betting preview we look at the best possible betting tips between the two sides.

On Saturday afternoon this weekend in the Championship we see Chris Houghton take his Brighton side on the trip to Deepdale Stadium to face Simon Grayson’s Preston North End. You would expect the away side to come away with the win here but it won’t be an easy task by any means. When these two teams met in the reverse fixture at the AMEX Stadium, Preston managed to do what not many other teams have, and come away with something. Jordan Hugill scored the only goal of the first half to put PNE ahead, but when two goals in nine minutes from Sam Baldock and Glenn Murray turned the tie on it’s head, it looked like that was how it was going to stay. However in injury time Preston snatched a point curtesy of a Simon Makienok header.

The home side Preston North End head into the visit of Brighton hoping that they can continue with their decent run of form in the Championship and yet again take some points off the league leaders. For a club such as Preston, they are probably overachieving with where they are in the Championship. They currently find themselves sat in 11th place in the table, level on points with Fulham in 10th and one point ahead of Aston Villa in 12th. They’ve lost just twice in their last ten Championship matches at Deepdale so will be quietly confident that they can take at least a point from this one. Last week their Australian central defender Bailey Wright joined Bristol City for an undisclosed fee, leaving the PNE faithful gutted with his departure. Therefore it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Grayson have a dabble in the transfer market. Their top scorers are Jordan Hugill and Callum Robinson, they both have five goals to their name and will be looking to add to that tally.

On Saturday evening last weekend they welcomed Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal to Deepdale Stadium in the third round of the FA Cup. It was the hosts who started on top and took an early lead through a close range Callum Robinson finish. They will have been gutted not to have gone into the break with at least a two goal cushion after having several glorious chances. However the Gooners scored just a minute into the second half thanks to Aaron Ramsey. Then just as it looked like it was destined for a replay, Olivier Giroud popped up to bundle the ball over the line with just a minute left on the clock.

The away side Brighton go into the trip to Preston just hoping to continue with their fantastic run of form in which they are going through this season. After their heartbreak last season which saw them miss out on automatic promotion due to goal difference and then lose in the play offs, it looks like they are in for a serious shot of the title this time round. They are unbeaten in their last seventeen games in all competitions and have won their last six on the bounce. They currently sit at the summit of the table in top spot, two points ahead of Newcastle United with a game in hand which could end up a healthy five points. One huge reason why the Seagulls have been so successful this season is due to their fantastic defensive record. They have conceded just 15 goals in 25 Championship matches, with the closest team to that being Derby County with 18.

On Saturday afternoon they welcomed Robbie Neilson’s League One MK Dons to the AMEX Stadium in the the third round of the FA Cup. The Seagulls took the lead after nine minutes through midfielder Beram Kayal, who drilled a low finish into the bottom corner of the net. They secured the win with their second with eighteen minutes left to play curtesy of a Tomer Hemer header. The third tier side hardly threatened and were second best all over the pitch. Brighton will now travel to the winner of Ipswich v Lincoln in the fourth round.
