QUIZ: Can you name every Europa League winner since 2000?

The Europa League plays out it’s final round of group games this Thursday before the knockout stages are introduced next February. There’s an array of enticing fixtures on show this week, with several teams desperately needing a result to stay in the competition. In Group H, we’ve seen a dominant Arsenal side breeze past FC Koln, BATE and Red Star Belgrade to clinch top spot and really assert their dominance within the competition, but they’re not the focal point this week, as the battle for second place is still up for grabs with all 3 of the other sides still in with a chance of making it through. BATE could progress through to the knockout stages with a victory over a weekend Gunners side, should Belgrade and Koln draw. However, should either of those sides win then they will make it through to next years highly sought after knockout phase.

It’s also still all to play for in Group J, where Swedish minnows Ostersunds FK have surprised everyone by topping the pile since the campaign kicked off back in September, it’s their first season in the competition and they now sit above Athletic Bilbao, FC Zorya Luhansk and Hertha Berlin heading into their last game against Berlin. Graham Potter’s men have already cemented their place in the knockout stages, but need to win that game in Germany to ensure they go through as group winners, as Bilbao only sit 2 points behind them in second, and will leapfrog them with a win over Ukrainian outfit FC Zorya Luhansk in their fixture on Thursday night.

Arsenal and Milan are the current favourites, while Everton are shown the door…

Elsewhere, Italian powerhouses AC Milan have made no mistake about winning their group, they’re 4 points clear at the top of Group D ahead of their final game against HNK Rijeka and join Arsenal as favourites to go on and win the whole competition next May. Perhaps the biggest surprise this season has been just how poor Everton have been, the Toffee’s spent big this summer in the quest for silverware, but have failed to win a single game in Group E. New manager Sam Allardyce will be hoping he can get his side their first European win over Cypriot minnows Apollon Limassol, simply for pride if nothing else; a win for the Merseyside club would mean that they end their forgettable Europa League campaign in 3rd place instead of bottom of the group, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.
