QUIZ: Can you name both starting elevens from the last time Manchester City beat Liverpool at Anfield?

It appears that Pep Guardiola is unfazed by breaking any and all records this season, as his Manchester City side put themselves forward for this season’s Premier League title. They now sit a whopping fifteen points clear at the top of the table but a record they could struggle to beat is the massive gap between now and the last time they defeating Liverpool at Anfield. Since that period, both sides have met thirty-two times, and Manchester City have had the biggest change since that time, as they enjoyed the significant financial injection which transformed them into the formidable side they now are, but getting past Liverpool at the historic Merseyside grounds has been something they’ve somehow not done for a fifteen year period.

As it’s such a difficult record to overcome, we’ve revelled in one of Pep’s next worthwhile challenges, creating a quiz which surfaces on the starting elevens that played on that fateful day back in May 2003. No substitutes or players on the bench are included, all you have to do is name each eleven players who started for each side, with there being some notable names from the start of the twenty-first century. You have twenty-two names to guess and eight minutes to identify them all, so have a go, share it with your mates, and send your best attempts to us on Twitter at @FootyAccums.

Liverpool and Manchester City meet on Sunday in one of the most telling encounters these sides have ever had, as a win for Manchester City would only improve on their lead at the top of the table, and a win for Liverpool would see City losing their first Premier League all season, as they attempt to go unbeaten in similar style to Arsene Wenger’s famed ‘Invincibles’.

Pep Guardiola’s men have made it this far, enjoying twenty wins and two draws from twenty-two league games played, but getting past Jurgen Klopp’s men at Anfield will be another challenge, as it was a win for the Red men in Merseyside last season. Philippe Coutinho left the club in order to sign for Barcelona last weekend, so that could have its effect. All we’re sure of is that it’s bound to be a fantastic spectacle between two of England’s most exciting outfits.
