RB Leipzig v Borussia Dortmund Betting Tips & Odds

In our RB Leipzig v Borussia Dortmund betting preview we look at the best possible bets between the two sides.

Overview

Saturday night sees a huge clash in the Bundesliga between two of the divisions heavyweights at the Red Bull Arena, with RB Leipzig taking on Borussia Dortmund. The hosts come into the weekend down in sixth position and they’re in pretty wretched form at the moment, winning just three of their last eleven in the Bundesliga. That leaves them 22 points behind runaway leaders Bayern Munich and the aim is to now achieve a top four finish to gain Champions League qualification for a second successive season. The visitors return to league action up in second, with them currently the best of the rest chasing Bayern. They’ve recovered from an inconsistent first half of the campaign to go on a nine game unbeaten run and they’ll fancy their chances of claiming what could prove to be a massive three points.

Three defeats from three for out of sorts Leipzig

This is a huge season for RB Leipzig and their boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, with them looking to build on their magnificent Bundesliga debut last term. They stunned the nation to finish in second position ahead of the likes of their opponents here, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Monchengladbach etc and they’ll be desperate to prove that it wasn’t a one off. The club are in uncharted territory this time around with them involved in European competition for the first time and expected to compete at the top. On the whole it’s been a pretty positive campaign, but it hasn’t had the same gloss of twelve months ago when they just couldn’t stop winning. Consistency has been a major issue with them stringing a run of two or more wins together on just three occasions and it’s something that needs to improve going into the home straight of the season.

Their immediate form is pretty concerning too with them losing their last three in all competitions which has had an impact on them dropping out the top four and down into sixth. But due to the competitive nature of the Bundesliga they find themselves just a point outside the Champions League spots so they have plenty of time to break back in there. They were last in action on Sunday when they were beaten by FC Cologne at the Red Bull Arena, in one of the shocks of the weekend. Leipzig took the lead early on through Jean-Kevin Augustin and looked like they were on course for a routine victory, but a late collapse ensured that they went down to a 2-1 defeat. It was a tough one to take for the Bulls and they’ll be determined to bounce back here, as a defeat could have a devastating effect on their CL hopes for next season.

Emil Forsberg

Emil Forsberg has found it difficult to replicate his impressive performances from last season but he’ll still be a big threat here

Improving Dortmund looking to strike huge blow

Making the trip to the Red Bull Arena are Peter Stoger’s Borussia Dortmund who’re slowly on the road to recovery. BVB have endured one of their worst seasons in recent memory with them making early exits from both the Bundesliga title race and the Champions League, resulting in the premature exit of Peter Bosz as manager. Stoger was the man drafted in to replace the Dutchman and he’s made decent progress with them since arriving at the Westfalenstadion. Dortmund are currently on an impressive nine game unbeaten run, with them last losing back at the start of December so there’s plenty of reasons for their supporters to be positive at the moment. Their upturn in fortunes has resulted in them climbing up into second position but they find themselves in a similar situation to Leipzig, with them just three points away from falling out the top four.

But despite the positives surrounding Dortmund’s performances over the last few weeks they do come into this one with a bit of a point to prove, with them being held to a very disappointing draw against Augsburg on Monday night. They took the lead through the returning Marco Reus who netted his second goal in three starts but were pegged back with just seventeen minutes, costing them two points which could prove to be crucial come the end of the season. Going forward Dortmund have looked excellent but sloppy defensive errors have been their undoing for the majority of the campaign and it’s something that they need to eradicate here when facing the likes of Timo Werner and Naby Keita, so expect plenty of goals.
