Rochdale v Rotherham Betting Tips and Odds

In our Rochdale v Rotherham betting preview we look at the best possible betting tips between the two sides.

Overview

Keith Hill’s Rochdale welcome Rotherham to Spotland searching for their first win in three. The Manchester side currently occupy 17th place going into this match, but could quite easily drop into the bottom 4 if they fail to win here and the sides below them manage to get positive results in their respective fixtures this weekend. The visitors are 8th and need a win here to close the gap between themselves and the top 6; they’re only two points away from the highly sough after play off places and could easily move into them with 3 points here providing results elsewhere work in their favour.

Rochdale welcome Rotherham for this League One clash.

Rochdale haven’t scored in last two outings

The hosts go into this match without a goal to their name in their previous 2 games against AFC Wimbledon and Blackpool, two 0-0 draws in those games summed up a bleak end to September for the Spirerites and meant that they slipped further down the table, dangerously close to the bottom 4 heading into October. Keith Hill’s men were in fine form before those two goalless draws though, they beat local rivals Bury 3-0 and then comfortably brushed aside strugglers Gillingham 4-0 so do have the ability within their squad to compete in this division if they apply themselves correctly.

Rochdale have become League One’s draw specialists this season, they’ve been held in 5 of their opening 11 games, more than any other club in the division so need to start turning these stalemates into wins if they’re to start climbing up the table and away from the dreaded drop zone. These next 3 games will be a massive test for the hosts, they play play-off hopefuls Fleetwood after this and then go up against fellow strugglers Northampton at home so desperately need to pick up some positive results so that they can pull away from the bottom half of the table.

Rochdale are only 2 points above the relegation zone heading into this fixture.

Rotherham looking to make it 2 wins in 2

The visitors for this clash are among the favourites for promotion to The Championship come the end of the season, they were relegated from the second tier last May after a dreadfully bad season which saw them only pick up 23 points throughout the whole campaign. The South Yorkshiremen were the league’s punchbags last term, conceding almost 100 goals and only scoring 40 in return, and they seem to have carried their defensive frailties with them into this campaign; The Spirerites have conceded at least 1 goal in 8 of their 11 previous fixtures leading up to this clash and look shaky at the back every time they step onto the pitch at the moment.

One massive positive for The Millers is the form of their main striker Kieffer Moore; the 25 year old Ipswich loanee has netted 9 goals in 11 outings and is currently joint top of the leading goal scorers list. The 6ft 5 target man is always a massive threat to any team he plays against and will looking to hurt Rochdale in this clash if presented with half an opportunity, backing him to score FIRST for the visitors could be a great shout here.

Kieffer Moore is the league’s current joint top scorer with 9 goals.

Odds

Rotherham go into this game as strong favourites, they’ll be looking to bounce straight back up to The Championship following their relegation to the third tier last season and have so far looked a fairly solid bet to at least make the play off’s when the campaign finishes next May; they’re best priced for the win at 7/4 with BetStars. If you think Rochdale will nick all the points at Spotland, you can get them at 6/4 with SkyBet. The draw is best priced at 5/2 with Betfair.
